Son of a Bocce started out as a indy league and has formed into a group of friends that now dominate the Bocce Ball courts! Coming in as the runner ups over the Summer they knew exactly what it took to dominate the Winter leagues. Stuck in a tie in the semi finals Nicole, the final throw for her team, nocked got them an astounding three points to win 7-4 against Bocced Up.
The final was full of suspense as they faced of against De'Boccery. The teams battled back and forth each getting one point and keeping the score at a tie. It wasn't until the final minutes of the game, score tied 4-4 and the opponents ball closer to the pallino that Son of a Bocce pulled out their secret weapon. Nicole once again stepped out onto the court to not only nock out the opponents ball, but score the final two points that won Son of a Bocce the championship!
A big shout out to Here for the Beer as well! For bringing in the most spirit tickets. One of the only teams to have every member dress up for every spirit day. They even made a few of their own spirit days up! At first they only won by one single spirit ticket, but then at the end of the day they came up to me with another huge stack they found hiding at the bottom of a bag, making their win by a landslide!
The 'Pallino Bambinos' took first place in the league with a couple of top notch efforts in the playoffs. They came into the night as the #2 seed and became the favorites after the top seed, 'Ball Busters', were upset by #4 'The Big Leboccski' in a 15-8 win. The 'Pallino Bambinos' would defeat 'Nobody Puts Bocce In a Corner' by the score of 15-7 to set us up for the championship between the two winners.
The championship was a rematch of a regular season game where the 'Pallino Bambinos' defeated 'The Big Leboccski' by six points.
In the championship the 'Pallino Bambinos' put together another strong performance against 'The Big Leboccski' and would eventually pull off a 15-10 victory, making them the champions.
A great season for the 'Pallino Bambinos' for their first season in the league. It looks like they may have a squad that could be as dominant like the Bambino's Yankees.
Our Late Summer Bocce Ball league wrapped up last night. The temperature was cool, but our champions, "Botched Ball Surgery" were scorching hot.
In our first semi-final the #1 seed "Team D Boccery" was slayed by the upset minded #4 seed, "Ball So Hard" by a score of 15-10. Meanwhile in our second semi-final, the #2 seed "Botched Ball Surgery" was clinical in their dismantling of the #3 seed, "Knocked Up"
"Ball So Hard", fresh from an epic semi-finals win after a season of many losses, was excited to be in the Championships. It was a strong, close beginning to the match, making single points each round. But as the game went on, "Botched Ball Surgery" was still on fire -- they wanted this win! Darren Russey pulled out a few clutch throws over the course of the night, but it was Ross Noonan who really earned VIP for the night. His enthusiasm carried the team, and Chelan Vukas impressed us all! She jumped into each situation humble, which usually ended up by knocking "Ball So Hard" out of the way. This winning team for the season really earned their $50 Benny's bar tab on Court 1 -- and they're proud of it!
Congratulations to "Botched Ball Surgery" and to all of the teams that competed in a great Bocce Ball season.
The Champs never left any doubt who was most deserving of the title for 2015. Coming from a curling background, this motley crew had the skill and moxie to out match all opponents. In the finals, Son of a Bocce put up a fight, but it just wasn't enough as the Champs were up to the challenge.

Da'Boccery and The Wrecking Ballers had the time of their lives on the final night of Bocce Ball, as the third and fourth place teams of the season rose to the occasion and beat their rivals to face off in the finals. Da'Boccery was represented with a dwindling team of only two on the final night: Jeff and Sara, who had been present all season (Sara, the team captain, didn't miss a single game!). The Wrecking Ballers had their team of five -- Christa, Shawn, Steven, Megan and Katie -- still joyous over a great semifinal win.
But Jeff and Sara were on fire still, with Jeff declaring they, "came to play!" following every epic round. Even when The Wrecking Ballers would try to thwart Da'Boccery with a close Pallino-on-the-line or a juggernaut throw, Jeff and Sara battled back each time with red Bocce balls in clumps of 2 or 3 shouldering out the losing team's green ones. Da'Boccery easily made it to 15 in quick succession, only leaving The Wrecking Ballers with a score of 4. But no matter -- Sara and Jeff's great sportsmanship extended to a round of pitchers and snacks for The Wrecking Ballers and the other teams who stayed to watch, at Benny's on their winning bar tab.
It's been a long road to greatness for the Bocce Ballers, but in the end, the championship glory is all worth it. Two years ago, this fantastic squad made it all the way to the finals, only to come up just one game short. Last season was a rebuilding year, but they always kept their spirit high. As it turns out, Summer of 2015 was a season of destiny for the Ballers. Led by Beau Johnson, and the Great Spirit of Luke, they made it all the way back to the fibals. This time they were not to be denied, as they dispatched Balls of Fury 7-1, 7-6. The last game appeared to be going to Balls of Fury, but on Beau's final roll, he swung 4 points and clinched the championship for his team. It was a great ride and we have a truly deserving champion!

The road to the championship wasn't easy this year, Ya Sure Ya' Bocce were the favorites to take the title with consistent awesomeness and sportsmanship but Bocce Going Up were rowdy contenders. It came down to the last game, tensions were high as well as the stakes. The bocce pitch was near silent during the last few minutes as people were measuring the final inches towards the title.
A roar went up at bocce pitch 1 and all of a sudden there were champagne showers and Turf the dog was howling like a wolf. Bocce Going Up are the Champions!
They weren't the only super heroes of the night, Curlers with Attitude were the hilarious and spirited SPIRIT CHAMPS!
Thanks for a great season everyone!
Our Spring 2015 Sunday Brunch and Bocce Ball league wrapped up yesterday with the leagues top 5 teams putting their best foot forward and tossing their balls and hearts out in pursuit of the ultimate glory of taking home the league Championship and a $50 tab at Hot Italian!
The action got underway with an exciting opening round match between the #4 seed "Mission Imboccible" and the #5 seed "Boccesaurus Rex" with the latter eventually prevailing 15-13. In our first semi-final, #2 seed "Bruce Bocce" survived a tough fight from #3 seed "Deboccery" winning by a 3 point margin 15-12 and securing their spot in the finals. Our second semi-final was a forfeit victory for Boccesaurus Rex.
Thus our final was set between an unlikely pairing, #2 seed Bruce Bocce and #5 seed Boccesaurus Rex. When the teams met earlier in the season Bruce Bocce came away with a 15-10 win, but playing with the championship on the line is a different story altogether and whichever team seized the moment would be victorious.
It was clear from the outset of the game that both teams were evenly matched. Trading points throughout the contest, neither team could get a clear advantage over the other. Finally, with the game on the line Bruce Bocce made a couple of clutch tosses to seal the deal and claim the season Championship in heart pounding fashion 15-13.
Congratulations to Bruce Bocce and to all of the teams that competed in the Bocce Ball season.
Our Spring 2015 Wednesday Bocce Ball league wrapped up last night with 8 seasoned teams eager and ready to make a run at the championship.
The action got underway with 2 massive upsets in the first round. Top seeded Joanie Loves Bocce was toppled by #8 seed Boccelism and the #2 seed Bocce Ballers were trounced by the #7 seed Tap That. Thus the stage was set for an exciting an unpredictable night of Bocce action. In the end however only two teams remained to face off in our championship match.
"The final showdown started right before 9pm, as the lights came on for the finale between Deboccery and Oh, Balls! Each team stepped up for Rock, Paper, Scissors to decide the court -- an advantage to Deboccery, as they won and chose to stay on the court they had been playing on all night.
Oh, Balls! showed their mettle not only by playing on the course that they weren't familiar with, but showing a great score difference right out the gate -- Oh, Balls! scored 2 or 3 for each single point from Deboccery.
But Deboccery wouldn't give up, finding unique ways to dodge land obstacles to get closer and nudge right up against the Pallino. As the score narrowed to 13 to 4, Oh, Balls! put the final touches on a solid win, capturing the championship and a $50 tab at Old Ironsides! Congratulations to Oh, Balls for a truly competitive spirit!"
It was a great night of playoff action last night as our Spring 2015 Bocce Ball season wrapped up. 6 teams came ready to put it all on the line in a fierce and friendly showdown that determined who were the best Bocce Ballers of them all.
In the opening round the #5 seed Bocce'd Lobotomies pulled the minor upset in a true nail bitter, defeating the #4 seed Your Bocce is a Wonderland by a score of 15-14. Meanwhile, the seedings continued to prove irrelevant as the #6 seed Stevie's Angels came out firing on all cylinders taking down the #3 seed It Hurts When I Bocce in decisive fashion 15-5.
Our first semi-final featured Bocce'd Lobtomies vs. Some Bocce's watching me, and they were tied the majority of the game until Some Bocce's Watching Me scored the dramatic winning point 15-14. During that time Stevie's Angels and Game of Throws were playing in the next court. Game of Throws threw their heart out and beat Stevie's Angels 15-9.
Thus the championship stage was set for the first and second ranked teams to get it on. We expected a great game and it was a classic. Some Bocce's Watching me jumped out to an 11-6 lead and appeared to be in control when Game of Throws won two rounds in a row big to even the score at 12-12. In the subsequent rounds each team scored a point until the game was tied at 14-14.
With nerves of steel, Some Bocce's Watching Me made the winning point and won ALL the Bocce Balls.
Congratulations to Some Bocce's Watching Me and to all of the teams that competed in a great Bocce Ball season.
