Gettin' Dodgy

"Dodgeholics" is our Dodgeball champion for Division B, in a season where very little went wrong for them. Overall they'd finish 8-1, with their lone loss coming in week two. Besides that, "Dodgeholics" finished the season with seven straight wins, including their nail-biting championship bout.

Throughout the season quite the rivalry formed, as "Dodgeholics" and "Daj Mabal" played a number of close games. "Daj Mabal" was also the only team to hand the "Dodgeholics" a loss this season, so they should get plenty of credit for that.

However it was our eventual champions got the final laugh, defeating "Daj Mabal" twice. That included the championship game, where"Dodgeholics" just barely edged out their rival by the score of 4-3.

Congratulations to "Dodgeholics" on a fantastic season, and we look forward to seeing if they can replicate it again this upcoming season!

Catching Fire At the Right Time

"( o ) ( o )" is our Division A Dodgeball champion thanks to a great run at the end of the season. They closed the season on a nice four-game hot streak, and by the end of it they were the league champs. But, entering as the #2 seed, they had to win in the first round to get.

In that first game they took on "Thunder Buddies", but were able to make quick work of the third seeded team, winning 6-2. With the convincing win, you knew they were ready to their championship opponent.

In the championship game "WTF?", the top team through the regular season, wasn't quite up to the challenge either. Looking to win the whole thing after finishing in second place last season, "WTF?" would once again be forced to play second fiddle. "( o ) ( o )" was just better on this night, winning 6-1 in a completely dominant showing.

Congratulations to "( o ) ( o )" on their great play these past few weeks, leading to the title victory!

The matchups were tough tonight, but the Nasty Hombres were up for the challenge. In the semi's they faced a potent and experienced team, Sitting Ducks. They both played their slow style of play, but the hombres had a litte too much fire power even though they were playing a person down and won a close one 3-2. Just before the finals, their babysitter showed up and that proved to be the boost they needed in the final, dominating the Brave Little Throwsters 5-0! Congratulations Hombres!!!!

Harambe gets championship he deserved in life

Harambe would truly be proud of the dodgeball team that used his namesake. This team had arguably the toughest path to a championship on this Thursday night, playing a female down and they also had to play three of our more veteran teams. Their first game of the night was a close one against Junk Shot winning the match 4 games to three. In the semi they played the number one seed and dominated 5 to 1. In the final, they played an extremely talented Dodgefathers team. The teams battled hard and traded games for the entire match. They were so even that they needed an extra game to decide the match. In the final game, Harambe's presence was definitely felt in the entire gym and he helped push them past the Dodgefathers in a thrilling 4-3 victory to seal their championship. Congratulations guys!

Close Calls and Flying Balls
If it Ain't Close It Ain't Fun

It was a close night for the Tigers but they Pulled through! The first round they took a camanding two game lead but their opponents weren't going down easy. They came back and tied it up to leave the fate of the tournament to one match. They skimmed by and made it to the finals! They now faced returning chamos the Oddballs. The first match looked like a revolutionary war standoff. Both teams loaded, fiered l, then retreated to stand their ground. bayside got a great catch and it seemed the match was theirs.....but alas three throws and 6 minutes in the Tigers were down 0-1. Tge second match looked more like a western shoot out. In under 2 minutes no Oddballer was left standing. The tigers took the next match and a comfortable lead 2-1. But a fire was on as the Oddballs tied it up with tume for one more game. Again everything was riding on one match and again the Tigers dominated. There was bo doubt who tge champs were. Great season tigers.

Grip It and Rip It

"Grips" is our champion for the second straight league thanks to their stellar play through the season. Not only did they win the championship, they went undefeated as well, finishing with an overall record of 10-0.

Defensive dominance was the name of the game for "Grips". In their 10 games they only allowed a total of 13 points against them. This includes some of their tougher games against strong opponents, none of which could muster more than two wins in any given matchup. In the playoffs "Grips" turned it up a notch and not only scored more, but allowed less as well.

One of those wins was a 7-1 win over the 4th seeded "Thunder Buddies". They were no match for our champions despite having just taken out "Dodgemon" in the game just before by the score of 5-1. Our other semifinal game saw "WTF?" knock out "( o ) ( o )" by the score of 4-2, setting up our final. But, much like the rest of the league, "Grips" was just too much to handle for "WTF?". Eventually the game would end 6-1 in favor of the defending champions.

Once again, congratulations to "Grips" on their dominant performance, not only in the playoffs, but throughout the season! They add another title to their mantle, and are now back-to-back champions!

A Night of Upsets

It was an evening of upsets, and when all was said and done "The D" was crowned our new Thursday Dodgeball champion.

This season the top five teams from the regular season made it to the playoffs. Our first game of the night was sort of a play-in game, where the #4 seeded "( o )( o )" took on #5 "Thunder Buddies". In that game "Thunder Buddies was able to pick up a 4-2 win, setting themselves up for a tough second round matchup against the best team in the regular season "Redrum".

But, as was the theme of the night, "Thunder Buddies" were able to grab a huge win by a slim 4-3 margin. Perhaps the first game did them well to get warmed up and find a groove, but whatever it was "Thunder Buddies stayed hot and were able to secure themselves a spot in the final.

On the other side of the bracket the #2 team from the regular season, "WTF?", was also upset after "The D" was able to grab a sold 4-2 victory. Most importantly the win meant that we'd have a new champion after both "Redrum" and "WTF?" had held a stranglehold as champions for the last few seasons.

In the championship game "The D" stayed hot and couldn't be stopped, firing on all cylinders. Meanwhile their opponent "Thunder Buddies" looked like they had just run out of steam from their 3rd game of the night. In the end it was a convincing 6-1 victory for "The D".

Congrats to "The D" for a great championship run, and overall fantastic season! They'll have a couple of weeks to enjoy their win before we get set for our upcoming season where we look forward to them trying to defend their title!

  Questionable Catch

The Long Last Stand

The week prior to champs Questionable Catch was long on reserves and had to barrow 2 subs to even meet the minimum player count. This made playoffs look dark. But it was all a ruse!

All players showed up and were accounted for and Questionable Catch won their first playoff series in dominating fashion winning 6-2. Though it was all fun and games, their second series would not be such an easy task as they took the final game into over time and edging out Wrecking Balls 3-2.

The Championship series would end in similar fashion with an extended final game. Ballrats took an early lead and push up to an astounding 3-1 making it look like they all but won the game, and they had. Questionable Catch knew time was the biggest factor and that Ballrats would play it out as long as possible. With the picked up pace though Questionable Catch was able to bring it back and tie the series 3-3 for a final game decider.

After some back and forth outs it came down to a 1v1 for the ages...as in the duel lasted ages. Andrea on Questionable Catch vs Ned on Ballrats. Both played carefully always having a ball in had to defend. They did just that, block after block, but Andrea was taking more shots and getting visibly tired. Ned was getting antsy and saw this as an opportunity to move up to the center line which he stayed far back from for most of the duration. But this was another ruse! Andrea was prepared after a missed throw she was able to catch the counter shot and win the game!

Back On Top

"WTF?" is our Division A Dodgeball Champion after a series of 4-2 wins in the playoffs. The win marks their second championship in as many season and is once again the team that will be looking to defend their title next season.

As the #2 team coming into the playoffs they definitely knew they were in contention to win the whole thing if they played at the top of their game.

Their first game of the night was the 2 vs 3 match-up between "WTF?" and "( o )( o )". As is always the case between the two, each game was close. But, this time it was "WTF?" who was the superior team after getting out to an early lead, punching their ticket to the final.

In the final "WTF?" took on "2 in the PInk", the top team from the regular season in Division A. "WTF?" picked up right where they left off. Much like the last game they got ahead early and, by the time "2 in the Pink" was ready to go, the game was out of reach for them. The game ended with "WTF?" picking up a 4-2 win, making them the champions once again.

Once again congrats to ""WTF?" on back-to-back championships. Is there anybody that can stop them?

Ballz-y Win

"See our ballz in your face" is our Division B Dodgeball Champion. As the top seed throughout the season they got a bye to the championship, so they had some time to scout their opponents while the first game of the night took place.

That first game for Division B was between "Beez Nuts" and "Gang-Green". "Beez Nuts" was definitely the favorite, and they showed why with a convincing 5-0 win. It didn't help that "Gang-Green" had to play short-handed, but that may not have changed much anyway. Either way, the 5-0 win for "Beez Nuts" set us up for a great championship game.

In the finals "See our ballz in your face" and "Beez Nuts" stayed withing striking distance of one another. With the score at 3-2 heading into our final game, "See our ballz in your face" was able to close out game six with a game-ending win. "Beez Nuts" was oh so close to forcing an extra game as game six was a back and forth affair, but "See our ballz in your face" just wouldn't let that happen, making them our Division B champions.

Congrats to "See our ballz in your face" on a great championship run!

A Bride (For the Second Time)
Questionable Catch Captures Second Title

"Always the bridesmaid; never the bride" has been the battle cry of Questionable Catch. Always close to a title, they have rarely brought home the $50 Gift Card. All that changed on Wednesday night at Friendly House. After defeating AA in round 1 and blowing out perennial power Ballrats in Round 2, the stage was set for Questionable Catch to take on long time rival Dodgezilla Resurgance in the Championship Game. It was a heated game with arguing back and forth. These teams know each other well and rivalry and animosity runs deep. The game was back and forth. Questionable Catch would go up a game and then Dodgezilla would match. We got down to 2-2 and the deciding Game 5. That's when Carl Guinn, Jr. stepped up. Dodgezilla, down to their last player, fired a fastball towards Questionable Catch. Carl Guinn stepped in front of it and made a terrific catch to seal the game and the Championship for Questionable Catch. The elation they showed in winning the championship was obvious. it was clearly very important to them that they get over that hump a second time... and on the 1 year anniversary (to the day) of their first title. This 2nd championsnip solidifies Questionable Catch as one of the truly great teams in Underdog Dodge Ball history. Congratulations Questionable Catch: a bride for the second time tonight.

Dodge, Dip, Duck, Dive, & Dodge Wins Again
Dodge, Dip, Duck, Dive, & Dodge wins a Tight One

This was by far the most competitive playoff weeks of dodgeball I have ever seen. We had six matches decided in the final game, including the championship match between Dodge, Dip, Duck, Dive & Dodge and Ball (Pun). 5 D's dominated all season, but had three very competitive challenging games to win a much deserved championship. It started against a familiar foe in Snoop Dodgy Dodge, then they beat a talented Velociraptors squad in the semi-final 4-2. In the Final they were pushed to the brink by Ball Pun, who won their first match on the final game 3-2 and then upset the top ranked Off Constantly to reach the final. In the final Dodge Dip, Duck, Dive & Dodge were just a little too much to handle for Ball Pun, and 5 D's closed out the match strong to win the championship 4-3. Congrats!

  WTF?

Sweet, Sweet Revenge

"WTF?" has won our latest Thursday Dodgeball league championship after defeating the defending champions by the score of 3-2 in a rematch of last season's finals.

It was an action-packed playoff night with plenty of games going down to the wire. "Wtf?", who came into the night as the 3rd seed, pick up a strong 6-2 first round win against "Dodge Mahball" in a game they were expected to win. They followed that up with a bit of an upset by defeating the 2nd seeded "Thunder Buddies" by the score of 3-2. With "WTF?" in perfect game form, it looked like they were on the right track.

Meanwhile in the other half of the bracket "Gov't Cheese" looked just as strong with a 5-1 opening round win against "Dodgeholics". In the second round the defending champs, as the #5 seed, took down the top-seeded "( o )( o )" with a narrow 3-2 victory, securing their spot in the finals. A tough loss for the regular-season favorite for sure, but on this night we saw that anybody could beat anybody.

Our finals were set, and it came down to a rematch of last season between "WTF?" and "Gov't Cheese". Last time it was "Gov't Cheese" who took the win, could they defend their title and win again?

Not if "WTF?" had anything to say about it, and they had a lot to say. Much like their second round games this one also went down the wire. But, in the end it was "WTF?" who edged out to a 3-2 victory to be crowned the champions of Xoso dodgeball.

Congrats to "WTF?", and we look forward to seeing if they can defend their title next season! Enjoy the taste of victory topped with some sweet, sweet revenge. And also the sweet hoodies!

The game is afoot!
Down but never out

No Hit Sherlock may have been trailing late in two of their three games, but they were never out of the contest, and bad odds seem to bring out the best in this scrappy bunch. Being the number six seed seemed to fuel the fire for this group in the first match, relying on Kandice to make some crucial catches to bring the odds back in their favor. In game two the pace of play was much quicker with both teams scoring multiple hits early in each game, but in this battle of speed No Hit Sherlock managed to live up to it's name and stay alive.
In the championship match, down by one game when last match was called Sherlock rallied back from a 4-2 deficit to force a tiebreaker match and ultimately claim victory.

Gov't Cheese Takes Title After Agonizing Close Championship

"Gov't Cheese" took the title in our Thursday Dodgeball league after an impressive season. They entered the playoffs as the #2 seed and were one of the favorites, but that doesn't mean it was an easy road. Fortunately for them that #2 spot earned them a bye for the first round, which helped in the long run.

In the second round "Gov't Cheese" faced off against last season's winner "( o )( o )". Our eventual champs went on to defeat the defending champions by the score of 5-2 while the top seeded "WTF?" took care of business against "Dodgy Style" in the other side of the bracket. This set us up for a 1 vs 2 championship game for the highly coveted championship sweaters.

Early this past season "Gov't Cheese" defeated "WTF?" by the score of 6-2. The stakes were just a tad bit higher this time, and it turned out to be a much closer matchup. Oddly enough “Gov’t Cheese” was the only team that was able to beat “WTF?” all season and they were able to do it not just once, but twice.

In the championship it all boiled down to the last and final game. The score was tied 3-3 after our time had ended, but a winner needed to be chosen so the matchup headed to overtime. At the end of it all "Gov't Cheese" reigned supreme and were crowned the victors in what was an intense final game.

Unfortunately for "WTF?" this was second straight time they have lost in the finals. There is no doubt Patrick will have his squad ready to go next season, but for now him and the rest of our dodgeball league will have the dubious task of taking down the champs, “Gov’t Cheese”. Once again, congrats to a great season and to a fantastic championship win!
