Congratulations to "Just the Tip" for winning the championship in our Sunday Funday softball league. They were dominant throughout the season and remained at or near the top of the standings the whole way.
In the playoffs "Just the TIp" entered the night as the top seed. And, just like the regular season, they were dominant both on offense and defense as they defeated "Pluma" by a good margin.
In the championship game they took on "The Strangers". Earlier in the season "The Strangers" took it to "Just the Tip" and picked up a 17-11 victory. No doubt they would be hoping for a similar scoreline one again.
This time, however, "Just the Tip" would not be defeated and showed why they deserved the championship. Not only did they put up tons of runs, they also held their opponent to just 4 runs. That was a huge difference from the 17 runs they allowed in the first matchup and that defense proved to be the difference in this game.
Again, congratulations to "Just the Tip" on a successful Sunday Funday League season! We look forward to seeing them defend their title!
The "Redeem Team" is our Monday softball league winner after picking up back-to-back wins on the final night to end the season. Their +23 point differential was well above any other team in the league, proving they were a well-rounded team who could not only put up runs, but shut down opponents as well.
The "Redeem Team" had their season get off to a rocky start when they lost their season-opener in a narrow 5-4 defeat to the "Red Rockets". They followed that up with a huge 16-6 win to pick up their first victory of the season.
Despite that confident win, frustration continued as the "Redeem Team" was only able to muster three runs en route to a 3-3 tie in their third game of the season to the eventual second place team "Sith Lords".
But, after their 1-1-1 start the "Redeem Team" flipped a switch and was all business. They closed out the season with five straight wins to catapult to the top of the league. That run included a 16-13 shootout in their rematch against "Sith Lords" that proved vital to their title run.
Congratulations to the "Redeem Team" for redeeming themselves after a sluggish start to the season. A well-deserved win, and we look forward to seeing them defend their title next season!
The "BallBarians" were crowned champions of our Thursday Softball league after a defensively strong 7-3 win. They were not intimidated even though they faced the previously undefeated "Multiple Scoregasms". The way their opponent had been playing throughout the season, "The BallBarians" knew they would have to bring their 'A' game.
Earlier in the season these teams met and "Multiple Scoregasms" squeaked out a 12-11 win in a back and forth affair. There was no doubt we were in for another great match-up between the two teams.
Both teams started out by putting runs up on the board. Afterward, "The BallBarians" continued putting together one-run inning after one-run inning while holding "Multiple Scoregasms" scoreless. The highlight of the game was a great diving catch by the pitcher for "The BallBarians" which closed out one of those scoreless innings.
"Multiple Scoregasms" strung together a couple more runs in the final innings but it was not enough with "The BallBarians" ultimately winning 7-3.
Congrats to "The BallBarians" for bringing it for the championship game! A well-deserved win. We look forward to seeing them defend their title next season!
'Sons of Pitches' won the Friday Softball championship following a 10-5 win in the last game of the night. Not only did they go undefeated with a 10-0 record, this win makes it their second championship in a row and they are certainly the team to beat on Fridays. We can't leave out the fact that they had a whopping +57 run differential as well, proving they were dominant all season.
Our championship night for Friday softball started out with the favorites, the #1 seeded 'Sons of Pitches', taking on the 'Dad Bod Squad'. Earlier this season the 'Dad Bod Squad' only lost by one run, so this was no easy task. But, much like that first game, 'Sons of Pitches would eek out a narrow one-run victory by the score of 9-8 to reach the finals. They would patiently await the victors of game two.
That second game of the night was between 'Spunky Monkeys' and 'I'd Hit That'. No doubt 'I'd Hit That' wanted revenge after being beaten pretty handily by the score of 14-4 just a week earlier. Unfortunately for them revenge was not in the air on this night as the #2 seeded 'Spunky Monkeys' won by the score of 12-7 to secure their spot in the championship as the underdog. They would be looking to prove their 11-7 loss earlier in the season to 'Sons of Pitches' was just a fluke.
That championship game was a fantastic one with both sides picking up runs to keep the other defense honest. But, at the end of the night only 'Sons of Pitches' was left standing with a convincing 10-5 victory.
Congrats to the 'Sons of Pitches' for winning another title, and we look forward to seeing them aim for a 3-peat once softball starts up again early next year!
The Division 1 championship game lived up to the hype and then some at Irving Park on Sunday, pitting two teams who were eager to claim the championship belt, regardless of the soggy field conditions and threating storm clouds in the distance. This was Underdog fall ball at its finest...a bit wet and muddy, but nothing Yur's bar or Underhanded Compliments couldn't handle for a couple of hours.
Underhanded Compliments took an early 4-0 lead, showcasing their batting skills from top to bottom of the lineup. Stellar defensive plays by both teams kept the game close throughout the middle innings, with Yur's bar starting to sweat a bit entering the bottom of the 6th trailing by three runs. Their bats finally heated up, leading to a six run inning and a nail-biting 11-10 win in a fantastic game worthy of Underdog style championship softball

'The Black Stallions' took home the hardware and plenty of bragging rights after finishing their season undefeated as champions.
Their first game of the night was against 'Looking to Score' and were huge favorites to win. Things weren't so easy though and the game was quite the nail-biter with 'Looking to Score' taking the lead heading into the final at-bats. But, in the end 'The Black Stallions' came out on top by the score of 7-6, fueled by a 4-run last inning and great defense to seal the escape.
In the championship they took on 'Kool Aid... Oooohh Yea' who was second in the league and won their first game 15-10 over 'The Strokers' in what was a bit of a shootout. Both teams traded 8-run innings in the 4th inning which added to the tension. 'Kool Aid... Oooohh Yea' then shut out 'The Strokers' in their final at-bat.
The championship proved to mirror the regular season as 'The Black Stallions' had beaten 'Kool Aid... Oooohh Yeah' twice before, though both were closely contested games.
Both teams started off slow, likely due to their intense earlier games. Both teams traded scores and 'Kool Aid... Oooohh Yea' ultimately took a 4-1 lead heading into their final at-bats. However, 'The Black Stallions' finally came to life scoring eight runs to take the 9-4 lead. They would then close out 'Kool Aid...Oooohh Yea' with a 1-2-3 inning.
Congrats to 'The Black Stallions' who proved dominant all season and are the deserved, undefeated, champions of the league.

The Honey Nut Ichiros came into the championship game with only one loss on the season. From the very beginning of the game the came out fighting and put some runs on the board. From the beginning of the game you could tell they wanted the when and they showed it with their excellent defense and solid hitting with heads up and smart base running. This teams successful season was absolutely a team effort with different people shining each week. This team knows what it means to work together and trust your teammates and it sure showed on the score board when they won the championship game on Monday night. Congrats Honey Nut Ichiros on a great season!

The Adversity Overcomers have done it. Behind an all out assault from the plate and lights out lock down defense they proved to be too much for the Sluggernauts to handle. Scoring a combined 27 runs over 6 innings sends a very clear message that this team would not be denied their first title. We look forward to seeing you repeat and defend your title. Have a great off season and we will see you in the Spring. Congratulations on winning your first USL league title.

The Arbornauts have done it again. They have captured yet another league title and did it with superb defense. Their bats didn't really get going until late in the game and again it was their defense that got them through. Behind a great pitching performance by Hermes and the hot bat of Mindy Tolstedt they managed to score runs when they needed and give up none when it counted. Great game and congratulations for winning yet another league title.

Our Late Summer Sunday Softball league wrapped up last night with the top 4 teams in the league taking the field in pursuit of the championship. The weather was hot but the bats were even hotter.
In our first semi-final, the top seeded "Nice Snatch" put the rest of the teams on notice that they meant business by laying a beating on the number four seed "Victorious Secret" 14-1. Meanwhile, the number two seed "We got the Runs" outlasted playoff newcomers the "Masterbatters" thanks to a late inning rally.
The afternoon sun may have had a hand in deciding the championship game as "We got the Runs" appeared visibly depleted from their epic semi-final. Nevertheless our champion "Nice Snatch" deserves all the accolades the have received. Their offensive prowess has become the stuff of legend as they won the championship by a final of 17-7.
Our Late Summer Thursday Softball league playoffs were held last night, and a new champion was crowned.
Cherry Poppers vs Multiple Scoregasms
Both teams started out of the gates early with runs scored in each half of the first two innings to start the game off with a 4-3 Multiple Scoregasms lead. Multiple Scoregasms then put their foot on the gas with a big 5-run 3rd inning and jumped out to a 9-3 lead. The Cherry Poppers attempted a comeback with 2 runs in each of the next two innings while holding Multiple Scoregasms through good defense, but it was not enough. Multiple Scoregasms won 9-7 and advance to the Championship.
Eminent Domination vs Victorious Secret
Eminent Domination came to play with a monstrous 8 run inning to start the game fueled by a home run and timely hitting. Victorious Secret tried to recover, scoring 3 of their own during the bottom half of the inning. However, it was not meant to be as Eminent Domination continued to lay it on, scoring a total of 15 runs while Victorious Secret would only score 2 more runs through the rest of the game due to great defense by Eminent Domination. Eminent Domination heads to the Championship with the 15-5 win.
Multiple Scoregasms vs Eminent Domination
Both teams started off strong on defense, holding each other to a 0-0 score after one inning. Eminent Domination would continue the fantastic hitting from their last game in the next inning though, scoring 7 runs and adding another in the 3rd. The hour break may have added some rust to Multiple Scoregasms as they were held scoreless for another 3 innings. Eminent Domination seems to like where they were as they would be held scoreless for the rest of the game while Multiple Scoregasms would put up 2 runs in the 5th inning but go quietly in the 6th. With some great defense and hitting, Eminent Domination seized the Thursday night championship with a score of 8-2!
Congratulations to Eminent Domination and to all of the teams that competed in a great Softball season.
Kate's Pub has pulled of the rare feat of wining back to back to back league titles. Led by their short stop, their pitching and their hot bats they took down power house Blue Barracudas in a 10 run route. From the start it was all Kate's Pub and that trend continued as the game went on. The Barracudas did try to strike back and get back in the game but in the end it was the awesome firepower of the battleship that is Kate's Pub. Congratulations!!

What a night! Our Monday softball season came to an epic conclusion last night as the leagues top 4 teams competed for league supremacy. "Muff n Men 3" were in search of a third straight championship, but they faced a stiff challenge from some truly talented squads.
#1 seed, The Fainting Goats vs #4 seed, Hittin Dingers:
Hittin' Dingers came to play and it showed quick and early as they scored 2 runs in each of the first 3 innings while holding the Fainting Goats to a lone run. The Fainting Goats started to chip away at the lead however, scoring 4 runs over the next two inning to make it a one-run game. Heading into the final inning, Hittin Dingers added two insurance runs which proved to be valuable as the Fainting Goats scored a run in the bottom half of the inning. It wasn't enough though and Hitting Dingers pulled off the upset by a score of 8-6 and headed to the Championship game.
#2 seed, Muff n Men 3 vs. #3 seed, Grass Fairies:
The offense got rolling quickly in this contest as each team scored in the opening inning. The Grass Fairies scored 3 runs only to be answered by the Muff n Men 3 with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. That was all she wrote however as the Muff n Men 3 turned on the afterburners, cranking out a total of 17 runs over the rest of the game, while continually blanking the Fairies. The Grass Fairies attempted to keep the game close with 4 more runs in the 4th inning but it was nowhere near enough. Muff n Men 3 were heading to the championship game with a chance for their 3rd straight title with the 17-7 win.
Hittin Dingers vs Muff n Men 3
Another championship game for the ages with the 2-time defending Monday Champions Muff n Men 3 versus the scrappy Hittin Dingers. The Hitting Dingers started right where they left off scoring 5 through the first 3 innings while holding the Muff n Men 3 to 1 run with some great defense and pitching. However, that's when the flood gates opened. Fueled by a 3 run home run, Hittin Dingers extened their lead to 10 to 1 but Muff n Men 3 answered right back with a 5-run inning them selves. Great defense kept Hittin Dingers at bay in the top of the 5th inning, while the Muff n Men 3 chipped away at the lead with 3 runs in the bottom half to make the score 10-9. The 6th inning became a tense showdown as some timely hitting knocked in an insurance run for Hittin DIngers. However, Muff n Men 3 had their eyes on the prize as after their first out they knocked in base knock after base knock to plate the 3 runs they needed to secure another championship by a score of 12-11. The Muff n Men 3 became back to back to back Monday Softball league champions!
They have finally done it, capturing their first fall title in team history. They had to knock off power house All Star Super Stars which was not easy in the least. From the on set it was a battle that went 7 innings an begged for more action because it was the good of a game. Led by Luke's bat and his lights out pitching, the Empty Pitchers escaped with a one run win and capturing their first fall title. 3rd baseman Alex Hurley told reporters after the game that this is it for him. He's hanging em up after 10 years with the team and moving on to bigger and better things. Congratulations Empty Pitchers.

It was a sweltering evening this past Friday night as our Late Summer Softball league wrapped up under the lights. The leagues top 4 teams battled through the pressure on the diamond in pursuit of the ultimate prize. However, only one team would remain standing on top of the podium when all was said and done, and the road to the championship was no easy stroll.
The action got underway with the top seeded "Sons of Pitches" taking on the game but over matched #4 seed "Super Hitters III". It was the "Sons of Pitches" who were the Super Hitters in this game as they opened the offensive flood gates, scoring 15 runs. The "Super Hitters III" managed to plate 9 runs of their own but it was still a comfortable win for the "Sons of Pitches".
Meanwhile, in our second semi-final the #2 seed 'I'd Hit That" and #3 seed "Walks of Shame" put on a strong defensive effort as runs were at a premium. Tied at 2 late in the game, "Walks of Shame" broke through with a decisive run to secure their spot in the championship game by a score of 3-2.
The championship game featured a rematch from an earlier season clash that was one of the best games we had seen all season. "Sons of Pitches" took that game 8-7 and both teams walked away with an increased respect for the ability of their opponent. The rematch in the championship game turned out to be every bit as exciting as the regular season game and then some. Throughout the game neither team was able to create much breathing room as the score remained close. Entering the final inning the "Sons of Pitches" clung to a tenuous 6-5 lead, but in that final inning "Walks of Shame" put two on the board to claim a 7-6 lead. The game would end somewhat anticlimactically as the game was called before the last inning was completed, therefore the score reverted to the last completed inning and "Sons of Pitches" were crowned season champs by a score of 6-5.
Congratulations to "Sons of Pitches" and to all of the teams that competed in a great Softball season.

Softballs and Hard Bats have done it again knocking off the Bad News Bears who earlier knocked off number one seeded St. Johns. From the start it was the defense that held serve against the big bats of the Bad News Bears eventually holding them to 3 runs over seven long innings. Their defense did bend at at times but in the end it did not break allowing SBHB to focus on offense and pulling ahead in the game and keeping that lead. Congratulations to SBHB for yet another league title.

Our Late Summer Tuesday Softball league came to an exciting conclusion last night as the top 4 teams vied to write their name in the history books as league champs.
Definitely Not the Giants vs. Kool Aid...Oooohh Yeah
The game started off close as Definitely Not the Giants took an early 2-0 lead through the first 2 innings. However, 2 straight 8 run innings from Kool Aid...Oooohh Yeah and some great defense proved too much. Definitely Not the Giants would score 2 more runs over the remaining innings but it was not enough as Kool Aid cruised on to the Championship game with a 16-4 (14-4) victory.
Out of Towners vs. One Hit Wonders
This proved to be a game for the ages and needed 9 full innings to declare a winner. The game started off with power hitting from both teams as both teams raced to a 6-6 tie after 3 innings. Then it became all defense, with only one run each being scored for each team over the next 3 innings and we headed to extras with a 7-7 tie. It appeared that the Out of Towners gave themselves a big enough lead after scoring 2 in the top of the 7th but a 2 out double tied the game back up. In the 8th, despite both teams starting with a runner on second in sudden death, great defense kept both teams from scoring. The Out of Towners were blanked again by great pitching in the top of the 9th. Two consecutive hits in the bottom of the 9th then sealed it for One Hit Wonders and they moved on to the Championship game which quickly got under way.
One Hit Wonders vs. Kool Aid
The One Hit Wonders began the game where they left off the last one as they scored 5 runs in a hit-filled top of the 1st inning. However, Kool Aid responded with 4 runs with their own power bats.Good defense proved valuable in the next two innings as each team would only score another run making it 6-5. With the last inning being called, One Hit Wonders kicked it into high gear scoring 3 insurance runs which proved to be too much for Kool Aid who went quietly in the bottom half of the inning. One Hit Wonders earned their Championship having played 13 straight innings of softball.

All season long, Bout That Action Boss managed to scrape out wins and remain perfect heading into the playoffs. Even with no blemishes on their record, no one thought they would cruise to a championship.
In the title tilt with Ball Park Franks, the squad was hitting on all cylinders. Pounding out 20 runs, the bats were hot in the championship game. Everyone in the lineup contributed a little something, making it a real team effort on offense. On D though, Susie Burke was a one-woman wrecking crew. Anything hit out to left was virtually an automatic out as she made multiple spectacular plays to guide Bout That Action Boss to an easy championship victory.

Congrats to Thick Sticks, winners of this 2015 Summer Kirkland Softball Championship. They brought the high-powered offense to both the semifinal and final matchup, scoring a total of 28 runs in route to the title. Their first game was a tight matchup that they broke open with 5 runs in the top of the 7th to down the Seattle Shaggy Muskrats, 12-5.
The championship game featured the only team to beat Thick Sticks during the regular season, Team RAMROD. Thick Sticks jumped on them early, plating 5 runs before RAMROD even came to the plate, and it proved to be too much offense to overcome, scoring in every inning to win 16-5. There were numerous offensive stars, from Marc racing around the bases for a homerun to Evelyn coming through with some clutch groundouts to score runs, this team had it all working. Congrats to the Thick Sticks!
The final game of the summer season lived up to the hype and then some at Irving Park on Sunday...two quality teams deserving of a chance to claim the coveted championship wristbands and bragging rights as The Team in Portland. High and Outside vs. The Syndicate, two veteran Underdog teams whose softball skills & never give up attitude were on display until the last out.
High and Outside started off the game with a bang, scoring eight runs in the top of the first innings against a team accustomed to leading a game from start to finish throughout the regular season. Down, but not out, The Syndicate regained their composure and began to chip away at the lead throughout the middle innings, showcasing their defensive talent and eventually taking a one run lead into the top of the 7th inning. High and Outside dug deep in the top of inning, score two crucial runs to take a one run lead heading into the bottom of the 7th. Their pitching and defense came up big in the bottom of the inning, stopping the Syndicate on three straight outs and leading to a hard fought and much deserved summer league title.
Congrats to team High and Outside...a title win for a team that represents all that is great about Underdog softball.

It is never easy to play the split doubleheader -- playing one game and then off for an hour and a half before coming back to play the second game. The anxiety of championship Sunday only adds to that difficulty. That was the task facing Rich & Jay's Love Children, having to win two games to be crowned champs.
So much for a difficult scenario. Having earned a spot in the finals with a one-run victory, they played just about as perfectly as a team can against the #1 seed Elks in the finale. Using a barrage of base hits to rack up 23 runs, they also employed a rover system in the outfield that the Elks could not figure out, only managing 5 runs. It was a smartly played game and a championship for the Children.
On a sunny afternoon at the Lower Woodlands playfield, the top two seeds of the midcore bracket faced off in what turned out to be a game for the ages. Both teams came ready to play and it showed. Each pitcher gave up only a scattering of hits, but it was the Empty Pitchers who were able to get on the board first, going up 1-0. They would add 2 more and take a 3-0 lead into the 7th inning, where the fireworks happened.
With 2 on and nobody out, Canlis blasted a 3-run HR to tie the game. Not panicking, the Pitchers would get out of the inning without any further damage. In the bottom of the 7th with a 3-3 tie, Aaron P came up with one out and blasted his own HR over left center, capping off a great game and giving the Empty Pitchers the championship.
Well in their inaugural season the A's have captured their first title. Behind strong hitting, aggressive base running, drum tight defense and pure energy, this team was too much to handle. If this team stays together they will definitely rule the soft core leagues until they are ready to move up and take on the better higher level teams. They are gonna take their lumps down the road but I see this team being a mainstay and will definitely put up a fight in any game. Congratulations A's and we look forward to you taking your place beside the league's big dogs,

For the very first time and in their inaugural season, Soft Balls have conquered and have captured their very first USL title. First year teams in USL usually don't capture their first until their third or fourth season. Soft Balls have officially rewritten the book on that and they are celebrating with great pride. They took on some of the more experienced and established league teams and they absolutely outplayed everyone of them on the way to their title. Their defense, their offense and their fundamentals, not to mention an infield that is drum tight and hard to get anything through. They are fun to watch and I look forward to seeing them in action really soon again. Great win and congratulations on your first league title. I'm confident that there are more to come.

For the second time in their brief team history, the Balco Bombers are raising the championship trophy. I have seen this team go from getting beat up by some of the better teams to just spanking teams now. They showed resiliance, patience, and more than anything a willingness to take a big loss and come back for more each year. Their confidence is never shaken. This team is stacked from top to bottom and the word dynasty comes to mind when their names is mentioned. They have sent a clear message to anyone who wants to jump in the ring with them. It's not going to be a pretty fight and you may wind up on the losing end if you don't bring your A game. Congratulations Bombers!!

The evening started with a shower moving through, and ended with a rain of runs from the champion One Mound & a Broomstick. As championship games go, this one was a classic. The Pitchin' Pugs came out swinging, putting up four runs in the first inning. One Mound would respond in the bottom of the 1st with 6 runs.
The game would stay fairly close for most of the night, with the Pugs belting 2 HRs over the fence. But One Mound stayed in control and never relinquished the lead, putting up 19 runs without any fence-clearing HRs. They would save the best for last, putting the game away for good with 7 runs in the bottom of the 6th. That downpour of runs is what they needed to become the champs!
Underhanded Compliments played solid softball all season long and it all paid off with them clinching the title on Monday night. They would show up every game ready to play and to have a good time. Not only did they play good softball, they also showed great sportsmanship throughout the whole season. They had some great players who stood out at times, but what was so special about this team was how they had different people make great plays each and every game. Underhanded Compliments really showed what it means to play as a team and they were always there being the biggest supporters for all their teammates. The combination of this great teamwork, chemistry and solid softball playing allowed them to clinch the title and become the league champs. Congrats Underhanded Compliments on a great season!

Jordan Plays Out Of His Mind
The Hooligans have captured the league title and in awesome fashion. With some great hitting and some super tight defense, this team started hot and ended hot enroute to their first league title. They are a very strong team and if they stay together they will be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come. Great game Jordan and great win Hooligans.
Couldn't have asked for a better match up between Adversity Overcomers and Your Mom Plays Softball. Two top ranked teams. Both teams known for their solid D and skillful bats, but over this Seafair weekend Your Mom was the dominate force. Mitch on the mound, with his crazy cross over pitches, was a machine. All he had to do was drop it down the middle of the plate and let his defense do the rest. Because of that unstoppable defense, Your Mom only allowed 1 run on only a few hits. At the plate, it's nothing new this season, but Your Mom hit the crap out of the ball. Becky, their fearless leader went 4 for 4 even after taking a line drive shot to the foot but mostly the knee....Ouch! Woo had a homer, Brian popped out twice to the catcher (nothing but love Brian), Bianca had a stand up triple, and the rest added a ton of hits along the way. All around, excellent performance on both sides! Have fun celebrating the championship victory at our beloved Tacos Guyamos!

A pitching duel going into the 4th inning. Score before the bats started to come alive was 2 to 1 in a SB championship game. Finally to start off the hitting was the Can't Stop Won't Stop all stars scoring 4, followed up by JTT getting 3 of their own. After the 4th it was back and forth until the bottom of the 6th where JTT couldn't not be stopped at the plate. They ended up 9 running Can't Stop Won't Stop and more or less sealing the deal. Worth mentioning that Can't Stop Won't Stop didn't go down with out a fight. They ended up scoring a respectable 5 runs in the last inning, but fell a few runs shy. A couple key players for JTT that helped get the ball rolling were the catcher and RBI queen Maddy and Naomi who had a hot bat tonight going 3 for 4. Overall great performance by both teams!

They say pitching wins championships, but this game was all about the offense in a close 20-15 nail-biter. Things started off rocky for the Bad Booze Bears as they were trailing through the first four innings of the game. Never losing confidence however, their refuse to lose attitude helped them explode for a 7 run fifth inning to take back the lead.
With the adrenaline pumping, they were able to shut down Stranger Danger's potent lineup in the sixth, adding on another 5 runs of their own for good measure. Despite a last inning rally from Stranger Danger, the Bad Booze Bears were able to persevere and take home the glory.
This was undoubtedly one of the most exciting and fast-paced games underdog has seen it quite some time.
In a back-and-forth affair, Basic Pitches realized early on that the indy Master Blasters came ready to play. Having their work cut out for them, the team solidified their defense and got key outs when they need them. That defense joined with timely hitting equaled a lead that would not be relinquished.
However, they were up by only two runs heading into the top of the last inning. Staying relaxed, the constantly strong pitching induced two flyouts before striking out the final batter to secure the championship.
In the final summer league contest at Dahl, the red-hot All Star Super Stars came out a bit sluggish. Instead, the #2 seed Pitch Slap looked to be the victor, jumping out to an early 8-1 lead. The Stars eventually got their defense together, but only plating one run through three innings was not their usual operating mode.
And then the turnaround happened. A series of big hits in the bottom of the fourth lifted the heads of the incredulous Stars and got home 6 runs, to bring the score to 8-7. The next two innings would see 11 more runs cross the plate, while giving up only two. The sluggers awoke and won the championship!
It's been a long time coming but finally Chico's has captured that ever elusive USL league title. Having to battle through two close games this team kept their composure throughout, played together and performed well under the most extreme pressure. Led by Bobby, Igor, Evan, Trey, Lexi, Wayne, Christine, Bryan, Christine, and Lisa this team has finally reached the pinnacle after all of these seasons. I have been with them from the beginning and I have seen the ups and downs that this team has gone through. To be a part of their first title is awesome and inspiring because this team never gave up, they never give up and this a true testament to never giving up and fighting to the very end. Congratulations Chico's and it's been a long time coming.

Griffey's semifinal game against Designated Drinkers turned out to be close game to the bitter end. Griffey maintained a slim lead throughout the game until DD took a 2 run lead in the top of the 7th. Griffey stormed back, stringing together several base hits to win the game and meet up with Bout That Action Boss in the finals.
Griffey stormed out of the gates with 9 runs in the first and never looked back. Boss's bats finally woke up in the 7th, plating 7 runs, but it just wasn't enough. Griffey took home the Championship 20-17.
Congrats to all for a great season and hat's off to Griffey Jr's Tonic, Underdog Softball Champions!
It was just another day at the yard for the No Pants Party in this championship match. Fueled by a walk-off homerun just hours before in their league at Lower Woodland, Rhino and his party surged offensively for 26 runs. Although this may look like a unbelievable amount of runs to score in a mere 7 innings this squad has put up scores on this end of the spectrum all year long. While Contract Year gave them a good game, putting up 18 runs themselves, it was no surprise to see the No Pants Party walking off the field as champions.

The Championship was set as the Backdoor Sliders attempted to complete a perfect season while the Sexy Pitches tried to avenge 2 earlier losses to the Sliders. In their first matchup of the season, Backdoor Sliders won by the maximum allowed 10 runs. In round two, Sexy Pitches figured some things out and only lost by one run, 7-6. Would the third time be the charm?
The game started off well for the Sexy Pitches, as they scored a run in each of the first two innings. Backdoor Sliders returned the effort with a run of their own in the third due to some timely station-to-station hitting. The Sexy Pitches padded their lead to 4-1 in the top of the fifth, which proved to be needed as the Backdoor Sliders scored quickly in their last at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. However, the effort ultimately could not plate enough to overtake the Sexy Pitches, who won the Thursday Championship game 4-2.
Congrats to the Sexy Pitches on their Back to Back titles!

Our Summer 2015 Sunday Softball league wrapped up yesterday with a six team single elimination playoff to determine league supremacy.
The action got underway with the #4 seed "Pitches and Hoes" out slugging the #5 seed "The D" 11-7. Also, in the opening round a matchup of veteran contenders went the way of the #3 seed "Just the Tip" by a score of 8-3 over the #6 seed "Gold Members".
In our first semi-final, we witnessed a shocking upset as the #1 seed "Team Funk You Up" was shellacked by the unstoppable force that was "Pitches and Hoes". The final score was 9-1 in favor of the underdogs and it wasn't that close. In our second semi-final, "Nice Snatch" blew up the scoreboard plating an astonishing 19 runs en route to a 19-9 win.
Thus our championship game was set between "Nice Snatch" and "Pitches and Hoes". If the prior games were any indication the runs would be plentiful. When the teams met earlier in the season "Nice Snatch" won handily 8-3 and although the score was slightly closer on this day, it was once again "Nice Snatch" taking it to their opponent early and often winning by a final score of 13-9.
Congratulations to "Nice Snatch" and to all of the teams that competed in a great Softball season.
Our Summer 2015 Monday Softball season wrapped up last night with a sensational final between two teams hungry for the championship. A single run would decide it all...
1st Semi-final (Blue Footed Boobies vs. Muff n Men):
Muff n Men looked to continue their unbeaten season right out of the gate. Continually scoring through the first 3 innings, Muff n Men gave themselves a hefty lead that the Blue Footed Boobies could not catch up to, sending them to the final. However, determined to not end their season with a shutout, the Blue Footed Boobies gave it their gritty all to plate their lone run in the final inning by playing station-to-station softball.
2nd Semi-final (Blackbirds vs. Green Go's)
On paper this match up looked like a dead heat and it did not disappoint. Fantastic pitching and timely defense led to both teams trading runs through the first 4 innings, ultimately heading into the 5th inning tied 2-2. A huge 4-run bottom of the inning from Green Go's gave them the lead that they would not relinquish, as the Blackbirds scored a final run in the last inning but it was not enough.
Final (Green Go's vs Muff n Men)
In a rematch of last season's playoffs, Green Go's looked for revenge over the Muff n Men and it became a straight-up pitchers duel to match the intensity. Both teams could not get their bats going against some nasty pitching and great defense, especially from both outfielders. The Muff n Men broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the 4th inning with some timely hitting and would not give up that lead, despite the best efforts of the Green Go's in their final at bat. The Muff n Men had completed an undefeated season and became back-to-back Monday season champions.
Our Summer 2015 Tuesday Softball season wrapped up last night with the leagues top 4 teams battling it out on the diamond to claim top honors, bragging rights and eternal glory.
Our first semi-final featured the top seeded "Master Batters" taking on past champion, "Were not Juicin".
Fueled by an 8 run 2nd inning, Master Batters seemed to have the game under control but We're Not Juicin' had plenty of fight in them as they chipped away at the deficit over the next few innings. Ultimately the comeback fell just short, as Master Batters escaped with an 8-7 victory.
In our second semi-final #2 seed "We Got the Runs" took on #3 seed "Kings" in a game that on paper appeared too close to call. The game lived up to it's billing as both teams exhibited great defense while trading the lead as the game progressed. Kings entered the last at-bat up 4-3 with 2 outs and a runner at first. However, We Got the Runs proved to be patient as 2 straight walks to male batters brought in the needed 2 runs and advanced Kings to the final.
Final (Master Batters vs We Got the Runs)
More great defense led to quick innings and low scoring for a large portion of the game. We Got the Runs eventually found their stroke in the 5th inning, with a pivotal 3-run triple, ultimately scoring 5 runs to blow the game open to 8-2. Master Batters was only able to answer with one more run in the bottom of the inning and, after a quiet 6th inning, We Got the Runs took home the Championship.
Congratulations to We Got the Runs and to all of the teams that competed in a great softball season.
Our Summer 2015 Friday Softball season wrapped up last Friday with the coronation of "Where's Sam?" as champions.
It was a truly remarkable season for Where's Sam, as they finished the regular season and playoffs with a combined 10-0 record. Entering post season play, their stiffest competition had come from "I'd Hit That", the team they were facing in the opening round of the playoffs. Earlier in the season the squads met twice with Where's Sam coming away with a two and three run victory respectively. However, in the playoffs Where's Sam turned it up to another level and prevented I'd Hit That from getting any momentum, winning 8-1 behind stifling pitching and defense.
In the championship game, No Glove No Love suffered the same fate at the hands of our champions although to their credit they were able to put some crooked numbers on the scoreboard in a losing effort 14-6.
Congratulations to Where's Sam? and to all of the teams that competed in a great Softball season.

The Bad News Bears have done it again. They reign supreme as USL league champions for the 7th time. Behind some very strong defense and just enough run support, they dominated the Dream Crushers down the stretch and hold on for a much deserved one run win. Both teams played their butts off but in the end it was defense that proved to be the deciding factor. This team has been around for quite some time and they keep getting stronger and stronger every season and show why they are always in a championship game. Hats off to the Bad News Bears for yet another league title captured. Congratulations!!

Wednesday night's championship game between Go Hard Go Yard and Pitch Slaps was one for the record books and will go down as one of the best played championship games in USL history. This game was truly a barn burner from start to finish. Led by the awesome pitching of Karyn and the hot bat of Andrew, Pitch Slaps scored critical runs when they needed to and locked it down on defense when they needed to kill a rally. The action went back and forth like a good old fashion gun fight in the old west. Go Hard Go Yard came out swinging early and built an early 3 run lead. Not be out done Pitch Slaps responded with 4 runs of their own and set the tone and sent a clear message that it was going to be a good ole fashioned throw down. After both teams went scoreless in the next 3 of 4 innings it was pitch slaps that rattled off 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning and that was the difference in the end. Down by 1 run and with 3 outs to either tie or go ahead Go Hard Go Yard could not answer in the top of the 7th with three straight outs. Great game, good night and congratulations to Pitch Slaps for capturing the league title.

Well the dust has cleared and we have a brand new league champ. Thigh Power was absolutely dominant in their run to the title and all teams they faced really had no answer fore their power, their aggressiveness and their hustle and it showed. I can't single out any one individual for any single performances because it was a total team effort all day long and in the end they established their dominance and did not waiver. If this team stays together and plays in future USL leagues, they will continue to dominate any and all teams whether they have been in the league for 1 year of 10 years. This team is fun to watch, their fundamentals are incredible and they all feed off of each other and play inspired. It was fun watching them dominate all day long. From Tina to Sebi to Frankie and on down the line this team is awesome. Great season and congratulations on your first league title.

It was a hard fought battle for the Championship title today. Sons of Pitches came out swinging and never really looked back. The Great Bambino's hung around with Sons of Pitches for the first 4 innings but just couldn't keep up with the Sons of Pitches relentless offense. Leading the charge on defense for the Sons of Pitches was the play of their left fielder Sean. His diving catch set the bar for the defensive effort it would take to bring home the championship.

Our Spring 2015 Thursday Softball season wrapped up last night with a championship showdown between the leagues top team "Sexy Pitches" and the game underdogs "Angry Beavers".
Sexy Pitches had a remarkable season, heading into the championship game undefeated including two regular season wins over their opponent Angry Beavers who for their part squeaked into the championship game by pulling out a win in their final regular season game. But even though the game may have appeared to be a mismatch on paper, the game itself would tell a different story.
The Angry Beavers came out of the gates hot taking an early lead, thanks to some timely hits and solid defense. As the game progressed both teams were keeping the scorekeeper busy as the bats were finding holes but the Angry Beavers were maintaining the lead. That is until the bottom of the 5th when with the pressure mounting the Sexy Pitches demonstrated their championship metal in pulling ahead by single run. That run turned out to be the decisive moment as the Sexy Pitches won a great game 10-9.
Congratulations to the Sexy Pitches and to all of the teams that competed in a great Softball season.

Entering the playoffs, the Empty Pitchers were trying to do what not many have accomplished, the perfect season. They finished the regular season 7-0 and were looking to win two more games to bring another championship home.
In the semi-finals against Buckley's in Belltown, the Empty Pitchers jumped out to a big lead thanks to the power hitting of Aaron Pyon. Aaron also pulled off one of the best catches of the year as he dove fully extended to snag a fly ball. The 24-3 victory put the Pitchers in the championship were they would face their long-time foe, STF Sluggers.
The first few innings were back-and-forth with both teams grabbing leads. Sparked by the great defense and timely hitting of Brett Neste, the Empty Pitchers were able to pull away and claim another championship victory. This title was a little sweeter due to the undefeated 9-0 season. Congrats go out to the champions for one hell of a season!!
The championship game began benignly enough, with the #1 seed No Pants Party facing the #3 seed Adversity Overcomers. Little did No Pants Party realize that they would need to overcome more than just their tough-hitting opponent. With two outs in the top of the 1st, their ace pitcher Zach was hit by a line drive and out for the rest of the game.
With emotions running high, they vowed to win it for their injured teammate. But they had their work cut out for them. In a seesaw game in which both teams had the lead and relinquished it, everyone knew it would come down to the final at bat. In the bottom of the 7th down by one run, Gary W delivered with a two-run home run to win the championship game in dramatic fashion.
Congratulations to No Pants Party!
On a perfect playoff day at West Queen Anne Playfield, Caught Looking proved that a team does not need a big lineup to rule the day. Playing with only 9 players, the team showed that a strong defense and timely hitting -- coupled with enthusiasm -- are all it takes to lead to victory.
In their first playoff game of the day, Caught Looking held their opponent to just 4 runs over 7 innings. They took the early lead after the 1st inning and never looked back. In the championship game, they needed their hitting to come alive and they delivered, busting out 16 runs. Once again, though, it was their defense that earned them the victory, with a game-saving assist from Blain in left field to nail the runner and seal the win.
experience mixed with good times and you get Thick Sticks, the new Greenlake Spring 2015 midcore softball champs. Using the Tucker training method, each player contributed great defense and massive power at the plate to go undefeated throughout the whole season. And playoffs went much like their season, winning 2 games to take home this seasons championship. Great season Thick Sticks!

In the first game Ball Parks Franks had Boss against the ropes, but a big inning late gave Boss the opportunity to play for the championship.
Game 2 between Belltown Pub and Westside Hittas was filled with incredible defense from both teams. Very clean exciting game. Hittas pulled it out late for the change to play Boss in the Finals.
The Championship game was intense from the first inning until the last out. Hittas speed and solid hitting eventually lead them to victory in a close well played game by both teams.
Well the dust has settled, and after some hard fought games and some heart break for the top seeded teams, the Giants have walked away with another league title. Lead by a drum tight defense that only suffered two errors the entire game, the Giants' bats and their hustle paved the way for yet another title. Starting the day off as the 5th seed, they did not expect to be in the championship game. It all came together for them in their second game where you could tell that their game experience and playing for titles in the past helped them get over the hump. Amazing game, great excitement throughout and once again congratulations to the Giants for their 5th league title.

Playing three games in one day is a feat in itself, but winning all three and claiming the championship is something much more impressive. The last game was close with no team have a lead larger than two runs. In the top of the seventh with the game tied 7-7 Ball Related hit Pinehurst with a two run upper-cut, a lead which would be too much to overcome for Pinehurst.

SBHB has captured their first league title and in grand fashion. Their resiliency, their patience and their ability to play for each other. The game was very tightly played by both teams and after ripping off 9 runs in the 4th, Junk Yard Dogs looked like they were taking control of the game. After scoring 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the 6th, they swung momentum back in their favor and went into lock down mode the rest of the way. They held JYD to zero runs in the final 3 innings and sealing the deal. Congratulations to SBHB on winning their first league title!

Our Spring 2015 Tuesday Softball league wrapped up last night with the leagues top two teams, We Like Big Bunts and Basic Pitches, squaring off in the Championship game to determine who would finish the season on top.
The two teams had gotten well acquainted with each other recently with the Championship game being their third game in the past three weeks. The previous two meetings were split 1-1 and we expected another close game in the finals and we weren't disappointed. We Like Big Bunts found the holes in the defense with their bats at opportune moments and made some key defensive plays to emerge victorious in a well played game 4-3.
Congratulations to We Like Big Bunts and to all of the teams that competed in the Softball season.
Our Spring 2015 Monday Softball season wrapped up last night as the top 4 teams competed for bragging rights and a bar tab for winning the championship.
Our first semi-final featured the top seeded Muff N Men taking on the upstart GreenGo's. Muff N Men's offensive prowess proved to be more than GreenGo's could handle as they moved on to the championship game winning by a score of 11-6. In our second semi-final #2 seed Kobra Kai swarmed #3 seed Master Batters early and often and never looked back winning the game 14-4.
The championship game was a lot better than the score reflected. Muff N Men brought their defense--they had several great plays and ended a few innings with impressive double plays. Kobra Kai battled throughout the game, they hit the ball well and played hard. Muff N Men displayed a true team effort--many of their 11 runs coming from good old fashioned RBI's.
Congratulations to Muff N Men and to all of the teams that competed in a great softball season.
Our Spring 2015 Sunday Softball season wrapped up yesterday with the leagues top 6 teams competing in a winner take all playoff to determine league supremacy.
The action got underway with the #6 seed 99 Problems pulling the upset taking it to #3 seed Boats and Hoes in decisive fashion winning 12-2. Our next game featured a match up of veteran teams as the #4 seed Gold Members took on #5 seed Just The Tip. Another mild upset followed suit in this game as Just The Tip won 11-6.
Our two semi-final clashes were one sided affairs with the top seed in each proving that they were deserving of the designation. #1 seed Nice Snatch laid a beating on Just the Tip winning 13-3, while #2 seed We Got The Runs slammed 99 Problems by a score of 10-1.
Thus the stage was set for the leagues top two teams to battle in the championship game
With both teams playing tough defense and solid base running, they battled back and forth for the lead every inning, in the end the home team advantage was too strong. Failing to score enough insurance runs during their ups Nice Snatch fell victim to the solid base running and long ball power of We Got The Runs in an 11-10 thriller.
Congratulations to We Got The Runs and to all of the teams that competed in a great softball season.
Our Spring 2015 Friday Softball league wrapped up on Friday night with a great night of playoff action. In our first semi-final The top seed The Gang Plays Softball lived up to their seeding in a decisive 9-1 victory over the veteran squad and number four seeded Sons of Pitches.
In our second semi-final, was an offensive explosion as the number two seed Team From the East out slugged number three seed I'd Hit That by a final of 16-12.
Thus the stage was set for our final between the two top teams in the league. Team from the East was playing with an 8 man squad and battling to compensate for the absences, but The Gang Plays Softball played outstanding defense and found the holes in the field with their bats, pounding out a 16-8 victory.
Congratulations to The Gang Plays Softball and to all of the teams that competed in a great softball season.

There is only one word to describe tonight's championship game between Hittin' Dingers and Missing Home: epic.
Evenly matched throughout the entire game--both teams kept pace with one another. A scoreless defensive battle ensued until the bottom of the 3rd, when Missing Home was able to push one across, thanks to an RBI from Marco. They added another run in the bottom of the 4th, when Arielle forced a fielder's choice with a sharp hit to the pitcher.
Hittin' Dingers got on the board in the top of 5 with 1st baseman Kevin, hitting a sacrifice RBI. Hittin' Dingers' Virginia would tie things up with an RBI single in the top of the 7. The 8th inning saw Hittin' Dingers take the lead, and then Missing Home took it back with a double RBI by Sean.
Heading into the 9th inning, Hittin' Dingers had to score 1 to tie, and 2 for the go ahead. After singles by Nick and Virginia, Nick was able to tie up the game up 4-4. Hittin' Dingers held Missing Home scoreless and into extra innings we went.
Back and back, back and back, until in the top of the 12th, Brie from Hittin Dingers hit a straight line to the pitcher who bobbled the grounder, scoring 2 runners. Missing Home had 1 last at bat, but came up short in the bottom of the 12th inning.
A defensive duel from the beginning and anyone's game throughout, Hittin' Dingers was able to come out on top.
Congratulations to Hittin' Dingers and to all of the teams that competed in a great softball season.

The Balco Bombers have captured the seasons first league title and they did it behind great hitting, great base running, great defense and flat out getting after it in both games. They started out their day knocking off number two seeded Skeet Skeet Bang Bang 18 to 2 in what amounted to them completely dominating and sending a clear message that they have a league title to go and get and no one was going to deny them. After dispatching SSBB they faced off against hot hitting and fresh off of two major upsets number 5 seeded Here For the Tots in what was an epic battle up until the 5th inning. The Bombers ripped off 5 quick runs in the bottom of the 5th extending their lead to 6 runs heading into the top half of the 6th. After holding The Tots to zero runs in the top half you could sense that the game was almost over. Their defense had no holes and it was extremely difficult to get anything going or even find a hole in the Bomber's defense. They managed to hold a great hitting team to 3 runs over 7 innings in a championship game. Quite impressive and this is not the last you will hear about the Balco Bombers. I sense a dynasty in the making. These guys are very exciting to watch and any team that faces off against them had better bring their A game. Great game and congratulations on your USL league title.
