It was position week for Friday softball, which meant the top two teams “Donkeys of the Swamp'' and “River Dogs” battled it out for the championship. The game started out very evenly matched, with both teams scoring a few runs of their own in the first two innings. Neither of these two heavy weights could pull away from the other. The “Donkeys of the Swamp” offense came alive in the 5th inning and scored a few runs to give them a comfortable five run lead, but the “River Dogs” were not going down without a fight. “River Dogs” started to make a comeback in the last inning, but the “Donkeys of the Swamp” were able to hold off the impressive “River Dogs” offense and win the championship 10-6!

The championship game between Puns Batted In and Jerry Jones Landscaping capped off an awesome day for Underdog softball at a sunny, breezing Delta Park on Sunday. Jerry Jones Landscaping kept it close for for the first couple of innings, but the hot bats throughout the line up and Jill's stellar play at 1st base proved to be too much as the game got into the later innings. With a convincing 22-5 victory and championship wristbands hoisted high in the air, team Puns Batted in finished off an impressive season in fine fashion & cemented themselves in the Underdog softball record books.

The last minute Vegas odds had the Huevos Grandes vs. Pitch Please as a pick 'em game, two veteran teams who have collected their fair share of championship wristband hardware over their remarkable Underdog softball journey. Both teams brought out the best in each other Sunday at Delta Park, a back and forth gem of a game that was decided by the last at bat of the game. Trailing by one run heading into the bottom of the last inning, the mighty Huevos Grandes played small ball to perfection, putting runners in scoring position & getting the clutch hit to secure a 17-16 victory.
Congrats to both teams on an amazing championship game & how you represent all that is great about Underdog softball.
An outstanding game between Hit for Brains and Ice Cold Pitchers was witnessed on Thursday night under the lights. Moist air might have kept the balls inside the park but both teams put their hitting prowess on display. With myriad pitching changes, great catches and laughs aplenty, it was a classic Underdog championship match. Well done to both teams and congratulations to Ice Cold! The best ICP we’ve ever known.

After successfully beating the Pill Hill Bombers in extra innings to advance to the championship game, Humbabes were ready to fight for the title against the #1 seeded Bombers. There may have been a slight cool down from the previous game as the Humbabes fell down 5 runs in the first inning. That didn't last long, however, as they rallied to back to back 7 run innings shortly after. From there, they never looked back and continued to pour on the runs to what eventually led to the victory! Congratulations Humbabes!

“Team A” are the Softball Champions of the Late Summer ‘21 Season, after defeating “Morale is High” 9-5!
“Team A” played a miraculous game in the semifinals to make it to the championship. They defeated the #2 seed “Poles and Holes” 1-0 in a nail biter. “Team A” was mentally exhausted from the first game, but they had get their minds right to take on the #1 seed “Morale is High” in the championship. “Team A” and “Morale is High” met during the regular season, and that game was an offensive show for the ages! Both teams scored 20 runs and played late into the night. Everyone was expecting another offensive explosion from both teams. “Team A” jumped out of the gate early and scored 5 runs, but “Moral is High” scored a pair of runs of their own to keep them within reach. Both teams were hitting the ball very well, and it looked like it was going to be another offensive battle. But “Team A” kept making great play after great play on the defensive end and held “Moral is High” to just 5 runs. In the end “Team A” won the game because of their defense, and proved that a powerful offense wins games but a great defense wins championships. “Team A” went on to win the championship 9-5!
Congratulations to “Team A” on becoming the Softball Champions of the Late Summer ‘21 season and winner of the $50 to Field House Sports Pub!
Yesterday we finished our Sunday afternoon softball league with some great playoff games!
The top 6 teams came into the day hoping for a chance to end the season with a win. The 4 seed Ice Cold Pitches cruised to a 6-1 victory over the 5th seeded Ball of Duty, while the #6 seed "Team B" eked out a victory over the #3 seed Flamboyant Flamingos.
In our semi final matchups, the rested top seeds took care of business. The #1 seed Masterbatters quickly dispatched the Ice Cold Pitches who had gone "ice cold", while the #2 seed "The Rebels" also won 7-1 vs Team B.
This setup our championship matchup between the top 2 teams. In week 1, The Rebels lost to the defending champs 3-1 and this was their chance at redemption. They got out to a big lead early, and while the Masterbatters rallied a bit, The Rebels held on for a big 11-4 win.
Congrats to The Rebels on their championship!
Top-seeded Bat Attitude took the field feeling confident, ready to finish their season after two weeks of rainouts. After 2½ innings, though, it wasn't looking like their day—the MasterBatters weren't going to go quietly and had set out to an early 4-1 lead. The Attitude asserted itself, though, and struck for five runs in the bottom half of the frame. They added four more in the 4th to extend their lead to 10-4 and were in the driver's seat. MasterBatters weren't done, though—they plated three runs in the next two innings and kept Attitude from adding to their tally, sending the game to the 7th down by just three. After making two quick outs, the MasterBatters cranked out consecutive hits to plate two more runs and were this close to playing on, but it wasn't to be, as Bat Attitude squeaked by with a 10-9 win. They managed this without the stellar services of their energetic second basewoman Amanda "Pint" Bonner, a defensive whiz during the regular season and potent force from a small presence at the plate, as she had chosen the Mariners' final game of the year over her own squad's. A sound choice? Aspen Schindel performed very well at the position in Pint's stead, making catches of line drives and showing good range, leading some to wonder if Pint is to be the Wally Pipp of Bat Attitude. "Hey," Aspen said, "I'm here and she's not. What, I'm not going to take her gig for myself? Ha!"
The skin-of-their-teeth win in the semis got them to the finals against PB Army, always a tough opponent. Army shot out to a quick 4-0 and then 7-0 lead, but Bat Attitude would not be denied and struck back for seven runs in the home 2nd to tie the game. Attitude never looked back from that point on, scoring max runs in the 3rd and adding on the rest of the way as they cruised to a 25-11 win to take the championship. Right fielder Stacy Crandall took player of the game honors with the catch in foul ground to end the game. Team captain Ryan Hollis also contributed with several big hits and defensive plays, but insisted the honor go to his right fielder. "She's the straw that stirs the drink," sad Ryan, comparing Stacy to Reggie Jackson even though her jersey sported the name of Roberto Clemente.
The pitching tandem of Jonathan Crandall and Vinny Minichiello served the Attitude well in the two games despite an off day for Crandall. "Hey, sometimes I'm like Mike Leake and never miss the zone. Other times I'm like Mike Leake on that one start a month where he gets smacked around. You never know which Mike Leake I'm going to be." Jonathan also made a highlight-reel play at first base, stretching out to snag a short-hopped wide throw from third base to end an inning. "They get lazy when I'm at first," he said, "they think I'm eleven feet tall and can reach anything when I'm really only eight-foot-four."
In the semi, POTG was awarded to shortstop Nick Johnson for his own potentially game-saving catch in the 6th. "That was fun," Johnson said. "Now I'm going to grab a shower and drink heavily."

Last night we concluded our Thursday night softball league with our top two teams facing off to decide our season champion.
Pitches and Cream went up against Wildlings United for the championship game, and what a game it was! For the majority of the game Pitches and Cream held onto a small lead. Unfortunately, for them, the Wildlings had more fight left in the tank. In the final inning the Wildlings put two more runs on the board on a soft flyball hit just outside the reach of the left fielder and third baseman. Wildlings United went on to shutdown Pitches and Cream in the bottom half of the inning in route to the championship win.
Congrats to the Wildlings on a great season and come from behind win!
“50 Shades” are the Tuesday Softball Champions for the Summer ’21 season, after defeating “Nasty Ashleys” 6-2!
“50 Shades” came into playoffs as the #3 seed, but they did not let that stop them from upsetting the #2 seed “Unkolafied” in a 12-3 victory. “50 Shades” took the lead in the first inning and never looked back from there. In the finals, “50 Shades” were up against the “Nasty Ashleys” who were the #1 seed and the defending champions from last season. In the first inning “50 Shades” scored a single run to take the lead and were able to hold that lead the rest of the game. The “Nasty Ashleys” did make a surge in the final inning, however it was not enough as the “50 Shades” squad walked away with the win and the championship!

“Swamp Donkeys” are the Softball Champions for the Summer 21’ season, after defeating “River Dogs” 3-1!
“Swamp Donkeys” entered the playoffs with an undefeated record, and looked to keep that undefeated streak into the championship. However, the “River Dogs” were ready for the challenge! Both teams displayed their amazing offensive talent all season long, but the championship turned out to be a defensive battle. It was anyone’s game, but the “Swamp Donkeys” started to click on offense and scored three runs late in the game. “River Dogs” ended up scoring a run of their own, and made it a nail biter. The “River Dogs” had one more chance to tie it up in the seventh inning, but the “Swamp Donkeys” kept making great play after great play, and ended up winning the game 3-1 to claim the championship!
Congratulations to “Swamp Donkeys” on becoming the Softball Champions and the winners of $50 to Elixir!
It wasn't the easiest of roads to travel. There were some bumps. There were some injuries. There were some little family members distracting their focus. But no one on this team was ever actually getting tripped up! They remained vigilant. Fought through adversity. And they stuck together. Maybe they can't say that they won every battle. But they can certainly say that they won the war. Congratulations Pitches Be Trippin! You are champions!

Pandemic fended off a resilient Stop Mo Sluggers in the semi-final and then hit the bar as they awaited their championship opponent.
Westmoreland Wizards and Super Friends duked it out in a highly competitive semi-final in front of an impassioned crowd that filled the seats at Erv Lind Stadium. The Wizards were bolstered by their sizable superfan contingent who showed up early to the Halloween party and serenaded the stadium with their own renditions of 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game.' Alas, the magic ran out in the final, as Pandemic showed that not even the dark arts can slow it down.
What started as a collaboration of friendly Indy-team strangers culminated in the hoisting of a metaphorical Underdog trophy. After another successful Underdog season, Hot off the Pandemic proved that the only thing infectious on their team is big-time playmaking!

The Might Wombats came out swinging in this game, rallying to an early 9-3 lead in the third inning. But, the Ice Cold Pitchers came back with a crucial 7 run inning to make it 10-9. This was followed up by a 5 run inning in the 5th to extend their lead to 15-9. The Mighty Wombats weren’t discouraged by this and were able to score three runs in the 6th, making it 15-12. In the 7th inning, the Ice Cold Pitchers were able to close out the game with some great defensive plays. Bradley Coffee caught the final out and was also the player of the game. From there they continued to knock in runs here and there throughout the game. Nevertheless, PDX Swingers wouldn’t go down without a fight. They continued to rally together and take the lead in the final inning. With runners on second and third, one out, Meagan of Masterbatters hit a line shot to right to allow the walk off win! Although short on sleep from a long flight back from Denver just hours before their first game, Casual Encounters dug deep (thank you Red Bull) on this sun-drenched day for playoff softball at Gabriel Park. Bat Intentions pushed them to their limits in a hard fought semi-final game, a 14-12 win that propelled them against Pitched be crazy in the championship game.
Casual Encounters bats were hot from the first pitch, putting them up big in the first couple of innings. With shortstop Ken sacrificing his shins & pearly whites on defense, the entire team continuing the hit parade for the rest of the game, and ace Scott painting the corners on the mound, Casual Encounters put on the championship wristbands after a near perfect final game for the summer season.

Shots! Jumped out to an early 2 inning 11-0 lead. The bottom of the 2nd came up and 7 runs crossed to notch away at the big lead. I’d hit it kept chipping away over the next few innings and eventually took the lead @ the end of 5 (15-14). That didn’t last long as shots responded with 3 in the 6th, but a heads up play by the pitcher and 3rd baseman to get the 3rd out and end the inning made it 17-15. 3 more added in the top of 7 by shots and the come back was set for epic proportions. In the bottom of the 7th down by 2 with the bases loaded, I’d hit that ripped a hit past 2nd base and 2 runs came in easily to tie it up but an errant throw passed the catcher while Aubrey rounding 3rd couldn’t/decided not to stop and crossed home safely!!! What a game and a great team to take home the title!!!

Right from the start of the game, Big Pink came out bats blazing. They were dropping hits everywhere around the field. Andy from Energy 350 did his best out in center to slow them down, but everyone on Big Pink was getting on base. In the bottom of the 5th, Energy 350 made a run late to try and steal the game. “Poles and Holes” are the Softball Champions of the Summer ‘21 season, after defeating “Drunk Again & Looking to Score” 10-5!

Neither team was backing down from one another, and it looked like it was going to be close the whole game. But “Poles and Holes” bats heated up in the third inning, and they were able to tack on 8 runs to take a commanding lead. “Drunk Again and Looking to Score” could never recover from the third inning. “Poles and Holes” played amazing defense the rest of the game and held “Drunk Again and Looking to Score” to five runs. “Poles and Holes” offense showed up in the last two game of the season to help them win the championship 10-5!

Poppin Homers entered the playoffs as the 4 seed who had to go through 3 tough matches in order to be crowned champions. This is exactly what they did. In their first game, they leaned on their defense to hold their opponents to only 3 points. In their second game, they let their bats speak for themselves by dropping 23 on the top seed. In their championship game, they had a mix of both by keeping their opponents to 8 and scoring 16 of their own including a huge 9 run inning late in the game. Throughout their journey, Poppin Homers were able to depend on their ace (Jordan V.) to pitch in every game. Overall, this well-balanced team took the hard way to the being champions!

This game had the feel of two juggernauts trading haymakers. Both teams put up some big innings and the ball was flying all over the yard in Capitol Hill. Small Everywhere was able to get a little bit of breathing room late in the game and took a 3-run lead into the bottom of the 7th inning. Just as I'd Hit That looked to be mounting a 2-out rally, the Small Everywhere defense came up clutch to secure the title. With 2 outs and a runner on 1st I'd Hit That smoked a ground ball to the shortstop. The ball ricocheted off of his knee and wound up in Kirsten Brose's glove. Without any hesitation, she gathered the ball and won the foot race to 2nd base to secure the final out of the game. A game-sealing, title-winning play to cap off a memorable championship game.

With each team having already played a game earlier in the day to quality for the championship game, both Batty McBatface and Misfits appeared on paper to be two evenly matched teams. They did not disappointment, with an epic battle at Rose City Park on Sunday. This was a back and forth, highly competitive game through five innings...a tie score of 13-13 heading into the top of the 6th had everyone in attendance on the edge of their seats for the last two innings. The Misfits' bats caught fire in the top of the 6th, scoring seven runs and putting a needed cushion against an extremely tough opponent. This was all pitcher Zach Frederickson needed to get them to the finish line, pitching two scoreless innings to secure the coveted championship wristbands. Congrats to team Misfits for an outstanding season!

Bats Hit Crazy!! were exactly what their name says when it cam to their offense. They continued to pound the ball all over the field and were just on a full time rally. Coming off the Memorial Day Weekend bye week didn’t slow them down one bit as they continued to rally around their team to take down the Mighty Wombats. They embodied true teamwork and it showed in their game play as they took the victory home. Congratulations on the win!

Day Donkeys sealed their championship spot two weeks ago and awaited the outcome of the game before them with Party at Jimmy’s! and Orange Crush. They came out bats swinging putting up 3 runs in the 1st. Party at Jimmy’s! didn’t make it easy on them as they continued to answer back. It was back and forth all game long with each team putting up 1 to 2 runs an inning. In the end it came down to exceptional field plays and dead on pitching to seal the deal in the final inning. Day Donkeys, congratulations!

Last night concluded our Thursday softball season, with the top four teams battling it out for supremacy.
In the first game, our #1 seed, The Great Hambinos faced Bat Intentions. The two teams met twice in the regular season, with the first game being a win for the Hambinos, and the second finishing in a tie. This time, it was just as close despite Bat Intentions only having seven players. They played tight defense and had numerous scoring chances, but in the end could not get past the Hambinos and fell 4-3.
The second game of the night was the #2 seeded Teal Clubbers against The Swingers. The Teal Clubbers pulled away early and never really looked back, with a final score of 13-3.
The championship pitted the top two teams against each other. The game was close early with both teams playing good defense and moving runners in classic small ball fashion. By the third inning, the Clubbers had enough waiting and broke open the scoring and the Hambinos just couldn’t catch up. Congrats to the Teal Clubbers on their championship!
Last night we wrapped up our Tuesday softball season with an unexpected finish!
After cruising through the first round of the playoffs, both Team B and the Nasty Ashleys faced off in the championship. The first two games of the night both ran a little long, and with an injury in the championship and lots of stranded base runners, the game was still going at 10pm when... the lights went out! Deadlocked at a 5-5 tie after the previous inning, the two teams graciously agreed to be co-champions. Congratulations!
Last Sunday, mothers everywhere tuned in to watch the Sunday Softball playoffs. Ice Cold Pitches entered the playoffs as the #3 seed, after losing their final two games of the regular season to finish with a 5-2-1 record.
In their first round, they faced the #2 seeded "The Shutdowns" who unfortunately had to forfeit. This send Ice Cold Pitches on to the championship against the #1 seeded Lucky Charms.
In the championship, the Lucky Charms left their luck behind. Ice Cold Pitches showed stellar defense and great hitting and blasted their way to an easy title.
Congrats to the Ice Cold Pitches on a great season!
On Friday night, we wrapped up our spring Friday softball league. Coming into the night, the River Dogs were the #2 seed, with a 6-2 record and their only losses coming to the Flu Fighters and a one run loss to the #1 seeded Crunchwrap Cobras.
After losing to the Flu Fighters 10-7 in the regular season, they bounced back with a 6-2 win in the first round. Crunchwrap Cobras easily dispatched the Swinger Club 10-4 to setup a championship between the top two teams. This time, the River Dogs got the upper hand, winning handily, 11-3.
Congrats to the River Dogs on their championship!
