After playing an extremely strong season, Notorious B.U.R.T. (they'll need to tell you what that stands for) continued their assault on fellow teams in the Late Fall Wednesday Softcore League at Tubman. With only four players last week, NB blew through the bracket to the Championship game. Steven Novak, our POTW, rejoined the team after an illness and NB were in top form. With Triffid's bullet service, Amanda's crazy diving, Pierre and Mark's towering work at net and blocks and Steven being in the right place at the right time, NB breezed to victory in two sets over Straight Shots. Straight Shots came back to win a close one in the third set, but the damage had already been done and to the victors were the USL champ wristbands and Ex Novo gift cert.
The semifinal matchup between Straight Shots and Balls and Dolls was one of incredible skill and on-the-edge-of-your-seat action with some lengthy volleys. Straight Shots beat back the strong effort of Balls and Dolls to secure their spot in the Championship game.
Hey, we've seen you here before!!!
Congratulations goes out to this session's Thursday Night Softcore Champs at East Moreland Courts....the Green Bombers!
Standing atop of the bracket looking down at all the dissemination and carnage that they left in their wake. Scratching, clawing, and climbing their way back to the top, this team was full of heart!
Its been a long season, full of ups and downs that helped develop this team into a cohesive and deadly group. The Bombers were one of this sessions more impressive teams for how they worked hard week in and week out to make themselves better. Even being down one of their key guys this week, the group met adversity head on and defeated it and their opponents in convincing fashion.
Led by their all american mother and daughter combination, the Bombers created a chemistry that allowed them to peak at the right time during playoffs.
Their championship match last night against Serverus had several awesome back and forth rallies, neither team willing to surrender the point. All the players on the Bombers were diving, blocking, and spiking their way through a grueling match that in the end left them winners this evening.
Congratulations again Bombers on a memorable evening and amazing session.
I'm just going to throw it out there and raise the bar a bit to challenge you to repeat as champs next session...can you do it? Time will tell.
There's absolutely nothing awkward about domination.
Not when your team has an average jumping vertical of 20 inches across all the players and spike and block their way to a championship. (It might help that Chad skews that number with his 60 inch vertical, but hey who's counting.)
Congratulations goes out to this session's Thursday Night Midcore Champs, the high flying, sonic boom producing Awkward High Fives group.
Last nights championship match started out as one for the ages. A galactic battle of good versus evil, heaven versus hell, The gods ver....ok it was a really good match that ended in a overtime victory for the Nice Piece of Ace squad. Going into games 2 and 3, the AHF group rallied and found their killer instinct and made sure to put these games away once they built up their lead. Dont be fooled by the scores, the back and forth rallies sent the 4 person crowd in the bleachers into a standing ovation after the match. You could hear the folks cheering in the concession area after every hard fought point.
Their game plan was simple...dig the ball, block the tough spikes (they were not always successful) that NPA was sending their way and set the big dogs and let them eat. Oh and eat they did...between the two teams I really felt sorry for the volleyball...we may need to retire that one due to the deformity that comes with being smashed back and forth for over an hour.
Once the dust settled, we had our champs. No strangers to the spotlight or standing at the top of the league, the humble team simply claimed their prizes and check and talked about next session. These types of actions are what leads to dynasty talk!
In the end I would be re-missed if I didn't point out that this sessions champs won it all without two of their key players on the sideline for this match. One who is working on adding another team member to the 2035 roster. The other...well his wife says that some people have higher pain tolerances than others...
Never the less, this sessions Champs peaked at the right time in the tournament and dominated the championship match in games 2 and 3 to bring home the title.
Congratulations to the team and high fives all the way around!
The Net Ninja's were a front runner all season long and they showed just why tonight in the championship game. All season long, this team was up for the challenge that other teams brought their way. The Ninja's and the OTAK Attack both came with fresh legs this tonight after winning their semifinals last week. OTAK was coming into tonight the defending champions from last season, but they were met by the number 1 seed tonight.
It was a two very close games tonight but the match went to the Net Ninja's, Hiya! after a two game sweep. The Ninja's were ready for what ever OTAK and (the ceiling) threw at them. All around this team plays so well together, it is hard to beat them and they showed just that tonight.
Great work Nija's, congrats!
Noooootorious D.I.G. brought down the house!!! They were incredible in a two set sweep against Spike Club. The first set took off one to one, spike to spike, bump to bump. It was a tight, competitive game determined by extensive rallies. Each team strategically utilized the whole court and outbounds lines were either their best friends or worst enemies. Notorious worked dominantly and stole the show the second set. Their stacked seven person roster was key to their brilliant league win! CONGRATS NOOOTORIOUS on being Monday Night Champs!!

While they might not have the most creative team name, "Team A" proved to be the best team in our Advanced Monday Volleyball League, taking home the championship and ending with a 7-2 record. Those two losses came in the first half of the league, after which "Team A" won five straight, including the one to win it all.
Entering the night as the top seed meant they got the bye and a a guaranteed spot in championship while they awaited the winner of #2 "Get It Up" and #3 "Notorious D.I.G.". "Get It Up" ended up taking a 2-0 win to meet "Team A" for a shot at being crowned champion. The match-up proved to be a fortunate one for "Team A" as it was an opponent they had previously beaten this season.
In the championship game "Team A" proved why they were to the top team throughout the regular season by knocking out "Get It Up" in straights sets by the score of 22-20 (game 1) and 21-11 (game 2) . Congrats to "Team A" for winning the championship, and we look forward to seeing them try to defend their title in the upcoming season!
The E! true Volleyball Story arrived fashionably in style and with an entourage of fans. Needless to say, they were pumped and ready to win the night! The E! proved to be worthy of their first place title with unpredictable attacks and relentless offense! They flew away with the first set leaving RiDigulous yet to hit double digits. RiDigulous responded in a hard fought second set making The E! earn each point! A very exciting game and powerful display of dominance!! CONGRATS The E! True Volleyball Story!

Emily and Friends, our cyber pink team of the season, took home the Softcore championship for Eastmoreland Tuesdays. It was a fun game to watch against Safe Sets. This team was solid all the way through the season. This week was no different as they came into tonight ready to bring home the W.
Consistency from behind the serving line and their ability to talk to each-other on the court so that nothing dropped on the floor without 110% effort were the difference makers tonight. Each player had their own standout efforts that lead to a team win.
Great work Emily & Friends. We will see you back next season to defend your title!
All Day I Dream About Spikes didn't just dream about winning they spent the season working toward a great championship match against former Midcore Champions Ball Me Maybe. It was two close games but the tired legs of Ball Me Maybe on their second game of the night showed with the final few hard hits by ADIDAS.
ADIDAS entered the night the number one seeded Midcore team and that is the way they finished it. The hard hits and very well placed tips had their opponent on their toes all night! The captain kept the team in line talking it up all night and working on court management to cover all of the areas. It was two games down to the wire but it was a sweep to end the season. Great work All Day I Dream About Spikes!
This week the team wore their lucky jerseys but they didn't need luck when you play like they did. Set Me Up....On A Tuesday, came ready for action this week and walked away champions.
They first had to defend the height of You Can't Set with Us. They used their hard hits and great defensive skills to win their first game in three. It was only just a warm up as they rolled into the championship against the #1 Seeded Back that pASS up.
All of Set me Up...on a Tuesday worked hard, each player made big plays that equated to one well deserved championship game. Great work all season, we will see you back to defend your title!
It wasn't an easy road to the top for "Blue Steel" as they entered our Tuesday Volleyball League playoffs as the fourth out of five seeds. But, in true underdog fashion, they were able to pick up three wins en route to their championship win!
Their run started off against fifth place "I'd Hit That" who won the serve. The game started out strong for both teams, but by mid-game "Blue Steel" made a run for it and won the first game. The second game was much closer, but "Blue Steel" got hot on a serving streak with the score tied 18-18 and ended up winning the game and the match.
In their second match of the night "Blue Steel" took on the #1 seed "Empire Spikes Back". Perhaps it was because all of their players showed up and their rotations were off that they couldn't match our eventual champions. "Blue Steel" won the serve for the first game and took off, racking up their points. Eventually they'd take the second game as well, thus reserving their spot in the finals.
While taking a breather "Blue Steel" awaited the winner of "2 Bump Chumps" and "Sets on the Beach". Both the first and second games were very close but in the end "Sets on the Beach" won both games! This was the best they had collectively played all season. Perhaps the return of Thomas, who had been out with a hurt leg and returned just in time for playoffs, gave his team a bit of a morale boost.
Our final game of the night came down to #2 "Sets on the Beach" vs #4 "Blue Steel". Neither team gave up easily on points as the rallies were long and both sides had some strong play. Fortunately for "Blue Steel" their opponents couldn't quite catch up in either the first or the second game, always trailing. At the end of it all "Blue Steel" was crowned the champions!
Once again, congrats to "Blue Steel" on winning the Tuesday Volleyball League championship! What a fantastic championship run by them!
Put your f**king hair up had a great season. They went strong with 8 wins and only one loss. As well as 4 of those wins the other teams couldn't even win one game against them. With a season this strong it's no wonder that this team made it to the play offs with ease. They won tonight because of a forfeit which is unfortunate but played anyways with each other for fun. They didn't want to come to the court and not play for their last game of the season.
Dj is a strong hitter and blocker. His defense matches his offense as he's always up on the net ready to take on whatever heads his way. Kanako is awesome at passing and digging, there isn't a ball she can't slide or dive for. Cassity is a great hitter and blocker as well but also knows how to place the ball and where to expect the ball to come from. Annie and Brittany are very well rounded with their sets and passes. They are key members of the team and set up Cassity DJ and Matt for those killer hits. Matt as well is well rounded but shows his best skills in front row where he can tip and push the ball over the net. Lindsay has fire and is great at passing the ball as well as setting and blocking. This time has the drive and power to do anything. They truly encapsulate the Underdog spirit.
Block You Like A Hurricane came in tonight whirling for the win. This team played like no other as they won 2-0. The other team had no chance once this team started blocking. This season they had 7 wins and 2 losses. A very consistent ratio for a very consistent team. One of the games they lost was actually against their play-off opponent: Unprotected Sets. This brought the fire beneath the team for the play offs that ultimately put them on top to beat this team.
Molly had great sets tonight, there was no way a spike would have been hit as hard without her. Brad really brought the kills with his great blocks, tips, hits, and net play in general. He was named Player of the Game by his team for this reason. Steve is really great at diving and digging for the balls. He also has deep serves and a really tall vertical that brought the thunder to the hurricane. Lorraine had a lot of amazing hits and front row sets to contribute in the front row which compliments her fellow teammates plays. Dan is an awesome middle who will hit, set, block, and dig any ball that lands near him. Chris could pass that ball up and put fire in the back row with his back row attacks. Anne can really serve and set the ball wherever she wants with her ball control. And last but not least Laura who came in tonight with a great presence and passes, she can surely dig a ball. Awesome job tonight guys, way to show off your underdog colors.
YOU SHALL NOT PASS played two games tonight. Both of them were intense and played with tact and pure skill. In this double header I saw a lot of passion and perfect set ups. This teams season had 6 wins and 3 losses. YOU SHALL NOT PASS has grown together as a team which is shown towards the end of this season when they were unstoppable, with 4 of their wins and no losses. This pushed them to win the Championship title.
YOU SHALL NOT PASS is the team with the most technique that I've seen this season so far. Each player is well rounded, has a position, and plays it well. Brynn is the teams setter, she is a very valuable player in general and one of the best setters I've seen in the league. No one can back set like Brynn. Jake is an amazing right side that can set, block and hit line like a beast! Cary is great at blocking and has a killer middle hit. No libero can dig those attacks from her! Meredith is a strong outside who digs tips and can spike line and cross. Amanda digs balls like no other. She can backrow attack and slide all over the floor to get a perfect pass. Eric has the strongest hits of all the team. (Which says a lot because everyone hits HARD) His net play is spectacular and he is someone to watch when he's making his approach towards the set. Awesome job tonight YOU SHALL NOT PASS. I've never seen a team like yours have such strong team ethic and technique. You guys deserve the title and Underdog is happy to host you!
Wow, what a match!! These two teams brought the heat, dedication and hustle to the court tonight. It was a blast to watch and a pity that no one was videotaping. From the hard hits and huge blocks in the front row to sprinting saves and pancakes in the back, these two teams showed the stuff that champs are made of.
After sitting (at the bar) for an hour, I’d hit that came out a little slow in game one. Back that ace up started off with a quick lead and a score of 6-2. However, it wasn’t long until the score was tied up and then I’d hit that took the lead. Some unforced errors and big plays by their opponents sent Back that ace up into a bit of a deficit that they couldn’t quite get themselves out of. With a score of 25-20, I’d hit that started the match off with a win.
Game two is where the majority of the magic happened. It started off a little slow, but soon both teams found their grooves and began their attack. Justin from I’d hit that was a huge threat at the net, putting up a huge block and crushing his spikes. Kaitlin and Laura, the two setters for Back that ace up, each brought their wits to the match and didn’t just assist their teammates, but took their chances to score some points with well-placed tips and chips. Kaitlin also rocked an awesome pancake which ended in a point scored for her team. The two teams went point for point for a long while in the end, each having multiple game point possessions. With a final score of 28-26, Back that ace up sent the match into a third game.
So much determination was seen on the faces and in the actions of the two opponents in game three. Trent from Back that ace up, continued his night of stardom at the net and everyone was playing at full speed and attention to not let any ball hit the floor. I’d hit that started making more unforced errors in game three and went on a streak of four missed serves in a row at one point. The energy stayed high, however, and both teams kept taking the lead from the other. I’d hit that got the ball back with a score of 20-24 and started to close the gap. However, a big kill from Back that ace up sealed the deal and crowned them champions with a score of 25-22!
With their setter off gallivanting in Honduras, Goose’s Avengers, found themselves in a bit of a scramble to fill his shoes. Meanwhile, on the other side of the court, Swinging Elephants, were working as a well-oiled machine after working out some kinks in the Fall season. The two teams met face to face for the second time of the season after a 2-1 match in week three that favored Goose’s Avengers. After a kick ass semi-finals match, Swinging Elephants, were ready for some more competition.
Game one came started out with some simple rallies and soon the harder hits were brought to the table. With Ashley stepping is as setter most of the time, Goose’s Avengers, were finding a system that worked to fill that 6th man gap that lingered on the court. She was putting up some great assists for her teammates that ended in many point scoring kills. Mike, on the Swinging Elephants, side used his 6+ ft height to create a tall force on his side of the net. He snagged many blocks and put down kills of his own. Goose’s Avengers, had a more dominating presence however and took game one.
Swinging Elephants had a pep talk going into game two and came out ready to put up a fight. They did a great job getting their hands on the ball, but unfortunately couldn’t always bring it back into play. Goose’s Avengers had really found their rhythm now and hardly noticed they were short a player. Their bump, set, spike combinations were on par and their hustle never slowed down. With some all-around great teamwork Goose’s Avengers pulled out the win and claimed the champion title.
"Classic Fock" is our Sunday Volleyball league champion after a dominant playoff performance where they swept both games. In the end their +14 point differential was well and above all the other teams in the league, showing us why they were the deserved champions all along.
On their run to the top "Classic Fock" only lost once. That lone loss came to their eventual championship opponent, "Practice Safe Sets", who boasted an impressive 6-2 record in their own right. When it came down to it though "Classic Fock" displayed top quality stuff and once the dust had settled were the champions of our Sunday league.
Once again, congrats to "Classic Fock" and we wish them luck this upcoming season as they look to defend their title!

"Kinky Sets" took home our Wednesday night Elk Grove league championship in straight sets over "Kiss My Ace" last night showing why they were the team to beat all season.
Our eventual champs, who already clinched a spot in the final before their final regular season game earlier in the night, didn't get off to a great start. They lost 3-0 to "All About That Ace". Was it because they were saving their legs for the championship game? Who knows, but in the end it all worked out. Maybe they needed that full game as a warm-up.
The championship game between "Kinky Sets" and "Kiss My Ace" was a rematch of a hotly contested game earlier in the season. "Kinky Sets" did win that game, but only by the score of 2-1, so we expected a another close one.
That game proved to be closer than our finale though as "Kinky Sets" dominated their opponent en route to a 3-0 sweep, proving they were in fact the best team in the league.
Once again, congrats to "Kinky Sets" for winning the Wednesday night title!
The Volleybralwers started as an Indy team not knowing each other's skill sets. The more games they played, they realized that they had something special.
All season long, the Volleybrawlers dealt with some physically imposing teams but their confidence in each other never wavered. The Volleybrawlers have a beautiful blend of skill and athleticism and put it on display on a nightly basis.
This team just met each other this season and won the championship. What do you think is going to happen when they enter another season together? I'm smelling a dynasty-like era of the Volleybrawlers for our eastside volleyball.
Great job tonight Volleybrawlers!
Monday’s Fall league at First Baptist church ended with a finals match between the #1 & #2 ranked teams for the season, We find volleyball enjoyable and Team Air Bud. After an intense semi-finals match, Air Bud had a chance to sit back, relax and do some scouting of their next opponents. As Enjoyable closed out their semi-finals match, Air Bud got on their feet to shake off the cold of the gym and prepare themselves for the next round.
Game one started off with a little bit of a lead from Enjoyable, but soon Air Bud was warmed up and started dishing out the heat they were being served. Enjoyable kept up their momentum from their semi-finals match with some powerful hits and some pretty wicked serves. Their line-up has all the girls and all the guys in a row and when that girl line was in the front they were a force to be reckoned with. Colleen’s middle skills had her blocking and hitting against a 6 foot something opponent like it was a walk in the park. Enjoyable took game one by a bit of a storm with a score of 25-19.
Air Bud was good and warm and out for some blood in game two. Their tall middle, Keagan, brought even more heat to the front line along with outside hitter Alex. Game two was full of awesome rallies and the two teams traded the lead the entire way. While many times teams lose points due to their own unforced errors that was not the case tonight. These two teams earned their points with clever hits, big blocks and crushing spikes. I have to give a shout out to both teams awesome defense as well for playing scrappy and saving many potentially point score balls from hitting the floor. With a final score of 25-23, We find volleyball enjoyable won the finals match in two games and claimed the title of CHAMPS!

It was a great night for Sportland as they took home their championship prize but it wasn't an easy road for them. Up first they faced the Straight Shots were were out looking for the upset on the #1 seed. They played Sportland at the top of their and made they have to work to come back. Game 2 went to extra points as the teams dueled it out. Ultimately Sportland buckled down and took home the semifinal win but what a great match.
Riding on their motivation from match 1, the championship game seemed to be all about Sportland. It was a hard hitting game that was FUN to watch. The teams played tremendous and they were working hard for the W but ultimately it was Sportland who took home the Champions title.
Great work Sportland, Congrats!
Tonight’s championship match included two very evenly skilled teams. Notorious DIG and The M’s went toe to toe and head to head tonight, constantly trading points and ending with some of the closest scoring games I have seen in a long while. It was not so much a match of who is better, but who got to 25 first.
After sitting for an hour and scouting out their upcoming opponents, Notorious DIG decided a quick little warm up was just enough before jumping right in. The M’s definitely had a bit of an advantage in the beginning as Notorious shook off the cold of the gym. However it wasn’t long before the two teams started going back and forth on points with killer hits, clutch digs, sweet sets and some ace serves. The final score was 23-25 in favor of Notorious DIG.
Jumping right into game two the pair were at it again. Both the M’s and Notorious were throwing their heart and soul into this championship round and were not going to go down without a fight. There was hustle and diving & cheers and high fiving. It was also a high spirited game with both teams visibly enjoying themselves and not letting a missed point get them down. The finals match came to an end with another close score of 22-25 and Notorious DIG cheering for their $50 coupon to the local sponsor bar.
Tonight’s playoff finals concluded with a smashing performance from a team that is very aptly named, Attack Pack. They faced off against worthy opponents, Gave my kneepads to your girlfriend (hereby shortened to Kneepads) who put up a decent fight. Both teams won their semi-finals matches in two games, but kept on playing the third game (a rarity in my experience as a supervisor) just for love of volleyball. Unfortunately, Kneepads lost one of their girls after the semi-finals because of a prior commitment so they were down a player going into the match of all matched. This didn’t stop them from putting up a good fight however.
Attack Pack definitely had the advantage in game one as they were nice and warm after just finishing their match. Kneepads on the other hand had spent the last hour freezing in the gym while scouting out their next opponent. They took a little time to warm up, but then decided to just jump right in. This probably hurt them a little as Attack Pack came out with their guns a-blazzin’ and took no mercy. Graham, one of Kneepads’ middle blockers, was a huge presence at the net and snagged many stuffing blocks, but it was not enough. Attack Pack breezed through game one with a 25-15 victory, ending the game with a fancy windmill hit from Mike.
With the start of game two came the removal of sweatshirts from Kneepads who had finally warmed up and were ready to do battle. Both teams were bringing some heavy artillery and backed it up with some fabulous and scrappy defense. Claire, from Kneepads, showed off some precision digs and dives as well as her cannon of an arm. Attack Pack led the game by a handful of points until they got to 23-16, then Sam stepped up to the back line for Kneepads. She went on a 7 point serving streak to tie the game at 23-23. Attack Pack started to fret a little and Kneepads had stars in their eyes. The teams then went point for point, each eager to get that two point win after reaching 25. The match finally came to an end with a crushing spike from Attack Pack for a 27-25 triumph and the title of Champs!
When all was said and done 'Blue Shield' was the winner of the Monday Volleyball league after a strong showing in the finals.
Their season was not without trouble though. After a good week one win they went on to lose three in a row and fell to 1-3. But, a strong run of four straight wins to finish the season catapulted them to the championship.
In that championship game 'Blue Shield' took on 'Get It Up', a team they had defeated twice earlier in the regular season.
'Blue Shield' went on to make it a third victory over 'Get It Up' with a sweep in the championship game to seal their fate.
Congrats to 'Blue Shield' for an inspiring season en route to their championship. Even when they were down, they knew they were not out.
This championship match was definitely a close one. Both teams fought hard, but Gods and Goddesses came out with the win in two straight sets, 25-23 and 25-20. They had some big kills from Adam that set them in the lead. Eli was all of the court, picking up anything that came his way; earning player of the game. All of the player from both teams deserve recognition for their hard work and great attitudes!
Congrats Gods and Goddesses on the victory!
The midcore championship game was a fun one to watch. Both teams laid it all out on the court, but in the end, Just The Tip earned the victory in the 3rd set. Gary was racking up the blocks left and right, and had his team backing him up with great digs when they got around him. Not only was this match a great show of volleyball, but also one of great sportsmanship. Both teams embody the Underdog spirit of Safe, Fair, and Fun.
Congrats to the Champs!
Tonights championship match up was a battle of the 1 & 2 seeded teams. Sets on the Beach had the semifinal first game of the night against League Night to earn their spot in the final game. High on Spikes came into the night with fresh legs and the determination to win and they did just that.
The match was a serving battle. We had long runs of great serves with each team defending their side to keep the serve in their possession. High on Spikes came in with some great hitting. They were met with a few block by Sets on the Beach, but some well placed tips helped them seal the win.
It was a great night of volleyball with a great group of people but only one team can prevail and High on Spikes earned their Gold Metal with experience and determination. Great work and congrats!
Congratulations! Be sure to check out the Club Sport Facebook page for all this season's champ photos. Plus all winners are invited to our next Champs Party where the beer is ON US!!

Hit That Bump, a spectacular team now, did not start out like this. This team like Drake, "started from the bottom but now we're here." Champions of the Midcore 2 Division of 2015. After starting the season with 3 loses, this Cinderella story team only needed that one win on that faithful October day of the 13th, to rally their team together to pull up on top. However, they did face one more loss to their dreaded rivals, Balls In, recording one more loss. This did not stop Hit That Bump though, in fact it did the total opposite and motivated them to win their next two games to bring them to playoffs, where they would meet their rivals for one final bout. This time however it was for all the marbles.
No doubt this would be a tough match up, the first epic set was a testament to that, having a close game of 27-25 going to Balls In. However this pushed Hit That Bump to fight harder and take the 2nd set in a hard fought battle winning 25-16, making it 1-1. Now the final set was a close one, each team battling it out, serve after serve and spike after spike. Now in this game Hit That Bump was also missing their key setter, however this pushed one man, or woman to be specific to step up above the others to bring their team the final V over Balls In. Emily Hankins the Player of the Game, brought her A game and set her team to victory in the close game that ended 25-23. Bringing the final set count to 2-1. Congratulations Hit That Bump on your hard fought championship!
Excessive Forespin a truly marvelous team not only in individual skills and talent but also in the overall fluidity of their teamwork. The Forespins started off their season and ended their season in one very similar aspect, but also in one very opposite one as well. The Forespins almost impeccable record of 8-1 shows the true strength and determination showed by each player towards the game. However there was always one team that stood in the way of their dream to be the champions and to win the shirt, mostly winning the shirt though. This team was the Uppers and Lowers, who was the only team to defeat the Forespins. However the story was completely different in the playoffs where the Forespins would meet their rivals one last time, just after playing a hard game of the semi-finals not minutes before.
This final meeting of the finals would decide the fate of the two top tier teams. Would it be a repeat of the first game of their seasons, or would the undefeated Uppers and Lowers finally meet their match by the hands of their first rivals. With a battle of 3 sets the answer was shortly realized. Now the 1st set was a strong victory made by the Forespins, spiking and blocking down any attempts the Uppers tried to make in victory, winning their set 25-17 the Forespins taking the lead to make it 1-0. However the Uppers were not going to make it easy for the Forespins fighting and taking the 2nd set by a close game of overtime 27-25, the Forespins fighting hard but just barely slipping into a loss. It was now 1-1, the intensity in the gym increasing exponentially. It was here the final set, the set that would decide it all. And it was one for the record books. Point after point, leads changing continuously, the Forespins would attack only to have the Uppers dig those attacks just to send them right back with greater intensity every time. Both team sweating and working double overtime to try and extend the lead. But slowly and surely the Forespins did just that, focusing on every single point, not looking too far ahead the Forespins beat their rivals and redemption was had, final score 25-18 Forespins are the Champions 2-1. Congratulation to the Excessive Forespins on now being the new Champions of Softcore 2015. #Wewontheshirts
Froggy Style was a team that was not new to the word Victory, in fact quite the opposite, they had a spectacular season only recording one loss thus ending their season 7-1. With their experience and skill it wasn't a surprise when they made it to the playoffs one more time. However they weren't going to have it easy either, they were going against a difficult foe. Just the Tip.
The first set was a close and difficult battle, Just the Tip taking it 25-22, Froggy style still battling hard. They did not lose any faith in their team of 5, and with a few adjustments they fought even harder, spiked and set perfectly and even got a good amount aces as well. Their team then took the 2nd set 25-19. In this set Froggy Style's one and only Allen Zang really stepped up, having a moment in time where he served 4 straight aces, followed by a couple killer attacks that resulted in kills. This moment was the real table turner and it gave the Froggies a chance to take this energy to the 3rd set, where you guessed it, they came up victorious winning a close one 19-17. Congratulation to you Froggies, the new Midcore Champions of 2015.
Get It Up swooped in and took the title! With a playoff March spanning two weeks, some teams would be worried about getting rusty. Not Get It Up. This team gelled like masters and it showed most notably in their championship game. From their cheers to team high fives and matching Underdog uniforms, Get It Up had it Going On! This team comraderie that took them through the playoffs was most evident when, upon being asked to name a player of the game for the championship game, they all decided the whole is greater than its parts and the team gets player of the game. When pressed, they selected their star server only after knowing the whole team would be memorialized in the champs entry for their stellar play as a group. Well done, Get It Up, for a fantastic season and a strong, sustained playoff run to the 'Ship......the CHAMPION-SHIP!

Coos Bay Google Interns Team B sliced through the playoffs like a hot knife through butter. They played formidable teams throughout, but emerged victorious. CBGITB dropped their first set against Kiss My Ace after a grueling back and forth. They then went on to win a miraculous five sets in a row against Kiss My Ace and then Set Me Up.....on a Tuesday. CBGITB's fast paced, hard hitting style served them well regardless of their opponent. They the capped off their playoff run and ultimate championship with big smiles and even bigger homemade cookies. Great season Coos Bay Google Interns B Team!

'I'd Hit That' finished the season as the top dog after being somewhat of an underdog coming into these playoffs as the third of four seeds.
'I'd Hit That' previously faced their first round opponents, 'in the RAYdius', twice before and was swept both times 3-0. Oddly enough this was the first time all season they had a full team of six on the court!
These teams were very evenly matched on skill level causing long rallies and an unusually long match for this league. 'I'd Hit That' would take the first set while 'In the RAYdius' tied up it up to push things to a third and final set.
This time 'I'd Hit That' was not to be denied and fought to a 23-21 victory to win the game in somewhat of a David vs Goliath moment for them.
In the championship 'I'd Hit That' took on the top seeded 'Sets On the Beach'. The original matchup earlier in the season saw 'I'd Hit That' win 2-1.
'I'd Hit That', fresh off their vengeful victory, kept the hot streak alive.
Both teams possessed tall players that are strong hitters. There were a number of great rallies, although the games were dominated by strong serving resulting in many aces from both sides. The five serve rule came in handy here! Eventually, that great serving would lead to a strong 2-0 victory for 'I'd Hit That' making them the champions of the season!
Notorious D.I.G showed up today wanting to be the champs and they fought hard and found a way to make that happen. They started off by losing the first set but that didn't stop them from fighting back and becoming the champs. They stuck together and played as a team to win the 2 straight sets and pull out the victory. This team knows what it means to work together as a team and knows the importance of every player on the court. They showed true fight and determination tonight and were able to stick together to get the victory. Congrats on a great season Notorious D.I.G.

This seasons softcore champ is Air High Fives! This team is led by one the coolest and most calm Captains name Bob and his team follows his lead. Every Thursday this team shows up, grabs a win, has a lot of fun, and then silently packs their things up and heads home, only to do the same thing next week. It came as no surprise that they would keep their composure throughout the playoffs and all the way through finals. Congratulations Air High Fives!

This season's midcore champ is One Does Not Simply Own Just One Underdog Shirt! If there is one thing this team knows how to do, it's how to win volleyball games. They didn't leave anything to chance going every set they played in the playoffs including the finals. They played a very talented team Nigh Court who gave them a run for their money, but battled it out and left it all on the court. One does not simply win a championship and one does not simply own just one underdog shirt.

The championship night at the Friendly house was one for the books tonight as the Torn Ligaments took home their first Underdog Volleyball Championship. This 5 person team took on all of the teams this season and prevailed in a comeback championship win!
The first game of the night was to see who would play in the big game. That What She Said was the advancing team as they won a 3 game match against the Sloppy Sets. It was a back and forth close game that came down to the wire but some well placed tips had That What She Set ready for the championship.
The first game of the championship was all That What She Set. They were warmed up and ready for the challenge and weren't going to let Torn Ligaments stop them. Game two was a close one as the momentum started out in the hands of that what she set but Torn Ligaments started to dig deep and worked to together to pull out the big game 2 win. The third game seemed as if the experience of Torn Ligaments playing together would be enough to take home the win. They talked it up, stayed calm and prevailed as the Thursday Night Friendly house champion! Great work Torn Ligaments! Well deserved!
It was RiDigulous had a tough road ahead of them for the playoffs. With a week off they came ready to face their first opponent in Shots on Us. It was a back and forth 3 game match that RiDigulous ended up winning by 2 with extra points.
The championship game was the 3rd meeting for RiDigulous and Brew Balls and it was a close one. Both teams were nose to the ground wanting to win the championship wrist bands but after a heated 3 game match, Ridigulous took home the prize.
Great work Ridigulous!
Shaggin balls had an indescribable season and topped it off with an undefeated championship title. The final game commenced with exciting play. Homeless Cougars and shaggin balls were neck and neck. The intensity and longevity increased with each rally. Competitive fever in the air, 25-19 shaggin balls had a 1 game lead. Blocking, attacking, the whole shebang, Brad was unstoppable from the front row. Set 2 erupted with Jamie utilizing her stealthy sideline spike and ended with Chris laying down fire in an impeccable hit. This team was on an ace war path stealing another victory 25-17. Neither team wanted to conclude with two sets and in high spirits waged on for another round. This solidified shaggin balls a 3 sweep win to claim their title of Underdog's Midcore Champs.

Our first season of Volleyball in Elk Grove wrapped up last night with two regular season games followed by the season ending championship game.
"Team A" was guaranteed their spot in the finals based on a stellar 7-1 regular season record, however their opponent in the championship was determined in a final regular season showdown between 2nd place "Can you Digg It?" and 3rd place "Kiss My Ace". The two squads had met twice previously with each team taking home a 2-1 victory. In the rubber match the final was once again 2-1, this time going in favor of "Can you Digg it?".
Thus our championship match was set between the leagues top two teams, "Team A" and "Can You Digg it?" Both early season clashes between these teams went the way of "Team A" however, both were highly competitive 2-1 contests. In the championship match, it was clear from the outset that "Team A" was a notch above their opponent both in terms of skill and team coordination. A valiant effort from "Can You Digg It?" ultimately fell short of the precision and poise of our champions as "Team A" won in two games.
Congratulations to "Team A" and to all of the teams that competed in a great Volleyball season.
Our Late Summer 2015 Sunday Volleyball league wrapped up last night with the leagues top 2 teams squaring off in a winner take all championship game with the winner claiming bragging rights, a bar tab and eternal glory.
All season long, "Fockin' Felipe!" has been the class of the league, only losing one match all season and that by forfeit. They entered the championship game the heavy favorite, but they also completed their final regular season game immediately before the start of the finals, and the odds makers wondered if fatigue would play a factor.
Their opponent in the championship game was "Block Party" who amassed a solid 5-3 regular season record and were well rested entering the championship match. Nevertheless, the cream rose to the top, and "Fockin' Felipe" rolled to a 2-0 victory.
Congratulations to "Fockin Felipe!" and to all of the teams that competed in a great Volleyball season.

Blood Sweat and Beers scared off their first team because of how intimidating they are and advanced to the first round in a forfeit, but that left them a little cold after playing the already warmed up SEtsy and We KNow it. It was the battle of the neon colors, but these two teams go way back and it was on for this championship.
The only championship of the night that took all 3 games to decide, these teams worked hard for every point. From Serving aces to big blocks they both wanted that win badly but tired legs kicked in at the end and Setsy and We Know it only lost a few points all together.
I know these teams will be talking about this championship for quite sometime, but Underdog cant wait to see the rematch in 2016!
Tonight the Softcore Division 1 champions were crowed and it was a first time team Will work for Sets. This amazing group of people defeated Hidden Volley Ranch to advance the the championships against the tough team in Take a Hit.
It was a great night of volleyball, including the best dressed in a Lion Shirt alongside Dwight flexing his muscles. This teams worked on every play to earn their championship wrist bands and celebrated afterwards!
Great work Will Work for Sets. We will see you next summer, you better be back to defend that title!
Tonight the GPD showed what they were all about winning the midcore championship with 3 people. It was a double header night for them but they didn't show their fatigue until the end of the night with the championship wristbands in hand!
Scott Angela and Ryan and to first take down Back that pASS Up and their big hitters. It was a a close two games, but GPD did what they needed to do to win.
In the championship, they faced My Bumps My Bumps, who defeated the Profane Pandas. It was was another 2 and done game to enter themselves into the championship. And they were ready but fell short of the 3 some that was GPD.
All season long The GPD did an amazing job and you can't leave out their amazing teammate Rachel who helped get them to were they were tonight! Great work Gangsta's, see you next summer!

Our Late Summer Beginning Volleyball league wrapped up last night with a great night of playoff action. In the first game of the night the #4 seed "#Pound" shut out the #5 seed "Spiiike" 3-0. In our next opening round match the #3 seed "I'd Hit That" survived a scare from upset minded #6 seed "Team A" by a score of 2-1.
In our first semi-final the #1 seed and favorite to bring home the title, "Kiss my Ace" withstood a strong effort from #4 seed "#Pound" 2-1. In our second semi-final the #2 seed "Sets on the Beach" smoked the #3 seed "I'd Hit That" 2-0.
Thus our final was set between the leagues top two teams. "Kiss my Ace" and "Sets on the Beach" met in the final regular season game the previous week with "Kiss My Ace" winning 2-1. In the championship game rematch it was more of the same except this time "Kiss My Ace" was even more dominant winning 2-0.
Congratulations to Kiss My Ace and to all of the teams that competed in a great Volleyball season.

Our Late Summer Advanced Volleyball league came to an exciting conclusion last night as three teams entered play with a shot at bringing home the championship. The real question however, was would "A Bump For Diggler" add to their legacy or could "Smokin Aces" or "Get it Up" dethrone our champs.
In their final regular season game, Smokin Aces came through in the clutch knowing that a win secured their spot in the finals. They were pushed to a third game by "Blue Balls" but ultimately survived the challenge winning 2 games to 1.
Thus our final was set between the Smokin Aces and A Bump For Diggler. The veteran teams knew each other well and mutual respect was evident as the teams took the court to play for all of the marbles. Earlier in the season Smokin Aces handed A Bump For Diggler their lone loss of the season and that loss played a large psychological role in the championship rematch. Smokin Aces proved in that match that they were capable of beating the best, and A Bump For Diggler was eager to show that their dominant run was far from over.
The championship match was an exciting display of athleticism and team coordination. A Bump For Diggler's experience and precision play carried the team to another championship winning 2-0 and adding another trophy to their mantle of dominance.
Congratulations to A Bump For Diggler and to all of the teams that competed in a great volleyball season.
If Orange is the new black, I believe Pink can be the new Gold. Gold as in first place!!!
Thursday evenings out at East Moreland saw the craziest, funniest, and down right goofiest crew, come together and play their butts off all the way through the Softcore Divisional Bracket till they stood alone at the end...CHAMPS...as the screams (high pitched that drew responses from the local coyotes) and jumping commenced, this team of fun loving Underdog people who no less then 2 indoor sessions ago all signed up as independents won it all.
With the sun going down on the third set, the game was tied 19 all, they dug deep and served out the last two points in grand fashion coming away with the victory just as the sun dropped below the horizon...perfect timing, almost movie like.
Congrats to Zenith Grudge for a fun session. Lets see if you can bring that awesome skill and spirit inside for the next indoor session and make it a grand-slam year by winning both the indoor and outdoor leagues.
From the first service in June, to the last serve in August, How I Set Your Mother dominated the Midcore sand volleyball league out at East Moreland.
They flat out dominated the sport and left no room for doubt as bodies were laid to rest in their wake as they climbed back atop the mountain.
Armed with their sky high serves and collaborative communication, this team moved and played in harmony that left many spectators in awe of their skills, including their opponents.
Having only dropped a handful of sets all season, it seemed as though destiny was on their side for becoming one of the few teams to win back to back to back sessions (a 3 peat). This feat firmly establishes their legacy in the Underdog Sand Volleyball Hall of Fame.
Great job on a fun season and outstanding play team. Now comes the hard part, can you be the first team to win 4 sand seasons in a row by taking 2016? Watch out cause the field will be coming for you!
This Championship match was a fun one to watch. Both teams just finished grueling semi-final matches, and went right into the final match. La bumpa seemed to get their second wind halfway through the first set, and carried it through the second one to claim the Champs title.
The first set was back and forth until la bumpa took off on a streak with well placed balls and consistent serves to win 21-13. The same strategy was used in game 2 in order to keep Straight Shots on their toes. Playing a smart game proved to be a winning strategy when la bumpa took set 2 for the overall win.
All players from la bumpa played an exceptional match and derserve the MVP title.
Way to go la bumpa!
Competitive streaks were definitely making an appearance in Tuesday nights Midcore Championship match. Both teams went all out and left everything on the sand. Though they were equally matched teams, 4Play came out on top in 2 straight sets.
MVP of the match has to go to Paul W. He was a wall at the net, blocking several balls and getting kill after kill. The other men on the team, Derek and Parker, also racked up the points, whether in kills or assists.
Like a Racecar had some big hitters of their own, but 4Play had Li Yun and Sharlene in the back to dig everything up and they did so with style.
This match was an exciting one with awesome kills, blocks and digs from both teams. Everything you would want to see in a championship match.
Congrats to the Champs, 4Play!
What a great night of volleyball that Notorious DIG put together to make and run and earn themselves the Wednesday Night Championship. In game 1, they had to play the tough women of ballsangna. It was a game of big hits and It was a fun one to watch.
The championship was a game of smarts. Notorious DIG was up against the tough number 1 seed of Lets Talk about Sets Baby. Well placed sets and tough serving streaks made the difference in the final game of the season.
Great work Notorious!
Sandy Bottom cruised to victory on Wednesday night at the SEPDX sand VB finals against Take A Hit. Jack, Chris, Katie and Faye took charge against a scrappy and talented opponent in Take A Hit and powered to 21-16 and 21-15 wins in the first and second sets. With some incredible setting and service by the gals, the guys of Sandy Bottom spiked their way to rack up the kills and the points. We can always count on some crazy antics by Jack and tonight was no exception as his humor kept us laughing despite the heat. Congrats to our first and second place winners in the Softcore division - Sandy Bottom and Take A Hit!

With burning sand under their "paws" (after all, they're the Homeless Cougars), the 'Cougs managed to grit out a spectacular and intense third set for victory against an extremely tough opponent in FreeBallers at SEPDX on July 29. These two teams had already played extremely competitive matches in the semifinals to victories against Ball Me Maybe and Get Some in a summer night where temps were 100 degrees on the court. After a quick break to douse their heads with water, the teams assembled on court with fierce determination to vie for the championship USL wristbands. FreeBallers took the first set 21-16, so the 'Cougs re-strategized their game plan and came up with a win in Game 2. Game 3 was a fantastic set to behold, as the crowd (well, the USL staffer) couldn't believe what she was witnessing in skill, luck and athleticism by both teams. A nail-biter to the finish, the 'Cougs came out on top with Katie providing the final two serves for set points and a 21-19 win. There couldn't have been a better match to watch in the finals between two incredibly talented and well-matched teams and the game could have gone either way. Congrats to the 'Cougs, but also three cheers to FreeBallers who fought tough to the end.

What a season by the Zarrilifiths! Their name might not be easy to say but it now stands for Champion. The team was on their mark tonight. It took all them just the required 4 games to win the championship match.
All season long these four teammates played at the top of their game. They survived a season of intense heat and great competition. They were ready for every team that came their way
Tonight was no different as the Zarrilifiths. They had to play two tough matches. First game against the Strugglebus was a great match. Tobie and David were money from behind the serving line. They took the game in two and headed to the championship.
The championship game was against the SWAT Team who defeated the number one seeded Orange Bananas. The SWAT team had a great season and playoff run as well. But in the championship game Jordan set up Josh for some big hits that were just too much for the SWAT team.
Great work Zarrilifiths!
Cupcakes dazzled and intimidated their competition arriving in crop tops and face paint. Their mischievous ploy paid off as they swept Spike tactic in a two set victory. Each player carried their own weight in athleticism and camaraderie to wrap up the season. However, it was their brilliant mixture of talent and distraction that propelled them to winning the WHOLE enchilada.

The treacherous aftermath of Sunday’s rain was no feat for Indy #V25. In fact, the muddy surfaces abetted the team to a 2-1 victory over Bump n Grind in their championship game. They rolled through their first set with no issue diving and sprinting to keep rallies alive. Unexpectedly, Bump n Grind soared to win the second set forcing #V25 into a third game. This nail biter waned down with a perfectly executed bump, set, spike and win in #V25’s corner. These individual players gathered as strangers and left as friendly victors.

It was an exciting night of playoff Volleyball last night. Our defending champions and top seed "Get It up" was in fine form entering play, but they would need to escape a minefield of challenges from teams hungry to knock them off their pedestal in order to repeat as champions and add to their legacy.
The action got underway with the #5 seed "Throttle my Dock" pulling the minor upset over #4 seed "Block Party" in a dramatic third game. Their reward for the victory was a match up with the powerhouse "Get it Up" who were rested on ready for all comers. The tough victory may have taken a bit out of the gas tank of "Throttle my Dock" as they couldn't match the energy and athleticism of "Get it Up" losing handily 2-0.
In our second semi-final, the #2 seed "Fock Yeah!" showed their metal in shutting out #3 seed "Lorax" and securing their spot in the finals.
Thus our championship match was set between the two top teams in the league. When the teams played earlier in the season, "Get it Up" took it to "Fock Yeah!" early and often winning a 3-0 rout. On this day however, "Fock Yeah!" was determined not to go down without a fight. Nevertheless it was once again "Get it Up" who proved to be the better team. Winning 2-1.
Congratulations to "Get it Up" and to all of the teams that competed in a great Volleyball season.
New to Underdog this season they were Anonymous but after just one season everyone knows who they are and they are the champs. It was a great season and an impressive championship softcore win for the Anonymous sets. They defended their first place seed with a two game win against the 2nd seeded Straight Shots. There were dance moves and dives all night long by this team. But it was their hustle and talk on the court that made them the clear winner. Great work Anonymous Sets!

The Woks up Thursday champion went to the number 1 seeded Multiple Scoregasms. After a tough back and fourth Match against Spiked Punch, they pulled out a come back and wont the 2nd two games in the match make them our Champion. Angela was clutch behind the serving line and Rachel was everywhere, diving to keep the ball alive. The men had big hits and set up the kils nicely. Both teams wanted the championship bad but it was the Multiple Scoregasms that were able to buckle down and get the big win. Great work!

It is a rare occurrence indeed when a team completes a perfect season, that is going without a loss or draw in the regular season and navigating through the playoffs without a defeat. That accomplishment was attained in our Spring 2015 Spiker Volleyball league which wrapped up last night with "A Bump For Diggler" completing the mythical conquest.
However, the road to glory was paved with formidable obstacles in the form of a semi-final clash with the veteran team "Smokin Aces". It was A Bump For Diggler that came out Smokin taking the first game and not letting up en route to a 2-0 win. In the championship match A Bump For Diggler came across the number two ranked "I'd Hit That". A team that was thirsty for revenge coming off of a 3-0 shellacking at the hand of our champions the week prior. The underdogs put up a heroic challenge but were ultimately outdone by the skill and teamwork of A Bump For Diggler who claimed the championship by a score of 2-1.
Congratulations to A Bump For Diggler and to all of the teams that competed in a great Volleyball season.

Our Summer 2015 Tuesday Volleyball season wrapped up last night as the leagues top 4 teams took to the court focused and determined to claim the championship.
The action got underway in our first semi-final featuring the number one seed and undefeated "Kiss our Ace" taking on last seasons runner up, the number four seed "Spiiike". Although Spiiike put up a valiant effort, they came up short as the third and deciding game went the way of the favorites and Kiss My Ace moved on to the finals. In the second semi-final, the number two seed "Purple Nurples" took on the number three seed "The Empire Spikes Back" in a rematch of a contest that occurred the week prior in which The Purple Nurples came away victorious by a score of 2-1. On this day however the Purple Nurples turned up the intensity and finished off their foes 2-0.
Thus our final was set between the leagues top two teams. Earlier in the season when the two clubs met it was Kiss My Ace that pulled out a hard fought win 2-1, but The Purple Nurples had learned a thing or two since that defeat and turned the tables on their opponent in the final winning a well played match 2-1.
Congratulations to the Purple Nurples and to all of the teams that competed in a great volleyball season.

You can really tell that this team of co-workers likes to spend more than 8 hours a day together. OTAK ATTACK plays like a regulated, well-oiled machine, coming onto the court prepared to put aside their engineer day-job hats and switch to knee pads and USL t-shirts for some serious volleyball competition. Their Championship game execution was nearly flawless vs. The Cranberries (Indy Team #19) as they swept all three games in an awesome display of athleticism and talent. Key to the match was Tammy's relentless service and Scott's steady presence and coaching. OTAK ATTACK was able to take their championship wristbands to the office today to show off and brag to the rest of their co-workers, who will undoubtedly ooh and ahh over their marvelousness in victory. Congrats on a great season OTAK - you fought hard for this!

Scared Hitless earned their championship for Tubman Mondays buy playing over 180 points of tough competition. Spike Club and Notorious DIG weren't going home quietly but their challenges were met with Scared Hitless' great team effort to win that championship. Teamwork was the key to their success.
Game 1 was a battle against Spike Club. With a game 1&3 win Scared Hitless was ready for the big hitters that came their way. This game was back and forth all night long. No lead bigger that 7 separated the two. It was great talk and court awareness that helped them advance to the finals.
The final championship match was against the number 1 team Notorious DIG. This game was a quality effort on both sides, but the momentum kept the Scared Hitless afloat. With clutch serving along the way, SH earned themselves a great season .
Great work to bot our Champions!
Bump in Grind came into the tournament with something to prove. They worked hard all season and wanted to finishes on top. Standing in their way was the Number 1 seeded Joy of Sets.
Both games were played with amazing precision and spirit. Back and forth they played till in the end Bump in Grind stood victorious. A great battle that saw two amazing teams pitted against one another in a classic championship game on Thursday night.
Great Job Bump in Grind, way to finish the season on top. We look forward to seeing if you can come back this fall and repeat as champs.
Their chants and cheerleading moments can echo throughout the gym on any given night. This over the top unapologetic, exciting and dynamic team brings it each and every night.
It's almost as if they found another gear for playoffs. Saddled with the most difficult draw, these guys and gals walked through their bracket knocking off the number 4,3, and finishing off the number 2 seed to win it all on Thursday.
They brought with them an attitude of we can't be beat and from their energetic play they made the most of their games and came away with the trophy.
Thanks for making this season one to remember and let's see if you can come back this fall and repeat as champs.
It's rare that teams need extra motivation to get hyped up for playoffs. It's even more rare that teams go all the way when they lose one of their core players right before their first game.
Back that Pass up came into this seasons playoff picture having lost one of their core ladies to a move up north to Canada. With their hearts a little heavy, it didn't stop what amounted to a high flying aerial attack that helped them dominate their opponents throughout the playoffs.
Led of course buy some fantastic play from the ladies, Back that Pass up was going to win it all with their rallying cry before and after every game..."for Canada"
Jumping, bumping, spiking, and diving they did it all this Thursday. In the end they were the ones standing at the top of the mountain singing Oh Canada...
Way to go team...

The match between Highway to the Danger Zone and Liquid Courage had a much more interesting outcome than I had expected. These two strongly skilled teams have kept the lead in the league through the whole season and it was no surprise to see them face to face in the championships. However, with their great skills I imagined a match full of long rallies, murderous kills and awesome saves. Now, don't get me wrong, there was some of that, but not what you would expect.
Tonight was a game of serving for both teams. In game one Ryan, from Highway, rattled off about 13 serves in a row gaining them an awesome lead and securing the win. In game 2 the tables turned and Wade, from Liquid Courage, was the server of the game with close to 15 serves in a row. In both situations the receiving teams let themselves get rattled and couldn't get dig themselves out of their hole.
With each team having an interesting win in their favor, it was anyone’s guess as to how game 3 would go. As the game got underway it took on the look of what I anticipated from the get go. Points were being exchanged at a normal pace and everyone was getting their digs and spikes in as usual. It was a much more interesting game that left me ooohing and aaahing. As it is with all games though there is only one winner and with a few more scrappy plays, hard hits and wicked serves, Highway to the Danger Zone pulled it out this season.

Tonight 4 were better than 6. Sportland earned their Championship the hard way...with the the team in Maui. While the others were drinking Mai Tai's on the beach, Jill, Julie Katie and Mark worked hard for 2 straight hours fighting off the #3 and #4 seeds to win the Spring Wednesday Tubman.
The first game of the night they had to take on the tough and scrappy Notorious DIG who gave nothing away. Sportland had to fight for every point and pull out all of the stops to earn the right to head to the Championship. Their tired legs were met with the Blundercats who were pumped up from last weeks upset win against the #1 seed. The Blundercats left nothing to chance and were diving for every point! However, Sportland didn't let their tiredness show until they earned that championship. It was a great night of volleyball tonight. Way to go Sportland, congrats!
The Spring 2015 Fernwood champions were crowned and taking home the wrist bands was the AMAZING Spike the Punch. This team worked hard all season long and they earned their championship with some big blocks and even bigger hits.
The championship was the 3rd meeting of Ridigulous and Spike the Punch. Tonight each team was ready for the opponents big hits and smart tips. Spike the Punch came ready to play while Ridiguous had to fight off the tough Gravey Diggers in the first game of the night. The fresh leg proved to be one of the deciding factors as the championship was decided in two games. It was a fun game full of great volleyball and spirits. Great work both teams, but CONGRATS to Spike the Punch!
Another season in the books and another first place finish for Shagging Balls. Returning champs were playing good ball all season and the playoffs weren't any different. Though it took a few points to get back into the grove, they found it and didn't look back.
Winning the first two games of thei matches, by limiting their mistakes, hustling and having fun. Everyone contributed to be win, as they all ,ace plays and scored points. Nice teamwork and season! Congrats on the victory and another round of wristbands!
Congrats to the champs! Look for our next champs party where you drink on us!

Our Spring 2015 Sunday Volleyball season wrapped up yesterday with a great day of playoff action at Turn Verein. The #1 seed Purple Dragons came in with an undefeated record in the regular season. Their upbeat, fundamentally solid, scrappy team took on the #4 seed Back in Black in the opening semi-final. Back in Black gave them a run for their money in the first game. Purple Dragons ultimately shut out Back in Black in the first two games to move on to the finals to face the winner of the #2 seed, Get it up (Teal) and the #3 seed Fockin' call Saul (White).
Fockin' call Saul came out strong in the first game making it look like an easy win may be in the cards, but Get it Up gathered together, regrouped and took the next game without a sweat! We had a tie game! 1 more win for either team and they would be in the finals, fighting for the $50 Blue Cue bar tab, and the title of Champions!! Get it up won the toss to start the 3rd game. The whistle blew and the intense back and forth game began. Rally after rally, both teams fought to seal their fate in the finals. It was an up for grabs game, but it was Get it Up who came out on top defeating Fockin' call Saul, even with their heavy hitters and solid defense.
The finals came down to the #1 undefeated, Purple dragons taking on the #2 seed Get it up. What a showdown this was going to be. Purple Dragons were confident having had not lost a match during the season, but Get it up was out for revenge! Get it up came out strong taking the first game by a hefty lead, leaving the Dragons slightly nervous. In the second game Dragons got their momentum back taking the 2nd game by 7 points over Get it up. Captains met, shook hands, and rock, paper, scissors for the last time. Get it up wins the toss and chose sides trying to get any advantage they can. Purple served the ball to start the final game of the final match, and took a quick lead over Get it up. Get it up with their athletic hitters, and solid setters came from behind took the lead and they never looked back. Get it up took the championship with class and got their revenge on the undefeated Purple Dragons handing them their first lost of the season. Get it up will be a force to be reckoned with next season, but until then they will be enjoying a $50 bar tab at Blue Cue and bragging rights until next season! Purple Dragons will be back though to duke it out again, that's a guarantee! What a great finish to a great season!!

Our Spring 2015 Bumper Volleyball season wrapped up last night with a special best out of 5 game championship between the leagues two top teams.
The top seed "SMUth Sets" entered the final with only one defeat on the season, however that lone defeat came at the hands of their opponent "Spiiike".
We expected a close competitive match in the finals and we weren't disappointed as the championship game was intense!
SMUth Sets decided to wear crazy socks for their last battle, and it sure seemed to give them that something extra. SMUth Sets dominated most of the action, while Spiiike was constantly fighting their way back in to the game by matching SMUth Sets intensity. SMUth Sets claimed the first two games with ease, but the third and possible deciding game was the longest in the season. In the 3rd game, with their season on the line Spiiike finally woke up and they came back refusing to give up. For 15 minutes the teams went back in forth with points scored. The audience was getting hyped. Every time SMUth served, Spiiiike answered back with a lucky scramble to save the point. While SMUth had great defense, Spiiike's offense was on point. Their serving kept them in the game until finally a couple of net touches doomed Spiiike to lose to the ever exuberant SMUth Sets. The ending was pretty anticlimactic and both teams seemed to want to play more. However, as we left the gym, both teams were planning to head to celebrate at the bar together.
SMUth Sets won the championship, but we think both teams "gained new friends".
Our Spring 2015 Monday Volleyball season wrapped up last night with the top 4 teams in the league taking the court with their sights set on winning the league championship.
In the first semi-final top seeded A Bump For Diggler lived up to their ranking in sweeping the game but over matched Smokin Aces. In the second semi-final the defending champion Dirty Sets got all they could handle from a peaking Team Mojo before ultimately emerging with the 2-1 victory.
Thus the stage was set for a championship showdown between two teams that were very familiar with one another, in a rematch of last seasons final. In that contest Dirty Sets came out on top, but A Bump For Diggler had beaten their rivals twice since then in regular season clashes.
In an exciting, well played game Dirty Sets came away with the last laugh once again winning the championship 2-0. Congratulations to Dirty Sets and to all of the teams that competed in a great Volleyball season.
The #1 and #2 squared off for the Friendly House Championship. It was two top teams vying for the coveted Underdog Wristbands. It was Lets Talk About Sets Baby that came away with them after a close two game sweep. Lots of laughs and a few big hits made up this championship. A great game by both teams but it was the #1 seeded Sets Baby that held onto their season last #1 spot. Great job to both teams and a big congrats to Lets Talk About Sets Baby!

Not in the Face came prepared to make a statement in the Softcore Championship at Tubman on Monday night. The team arrived early at the gym for warm ups that were so precise and well executed, it rivaled professional volleyball squads. The pre-game warm up proved to be the advantage as NITF breezed through three sets vs. SWAT Team without even breaking a sweat. (Well, except for Alec Campbell...). Setting their sights on the the championship wristbands and Ex Novo gift certificate, NITF went to work and engaged in several fantastic long rallies vs. #1 seed More Points in the title match. NITF took the first two sets in commanding fashion and worked the third set to a thrilling 32-30 end and victory. Well played NITF and it just goes to show you that practice makes perfect!

The Shots swept POTG and POTW honors in both matches, with Hannie, Taylor and AJ bringing their A games to the court with powerful performances. In this championship game, the rallies were long and the points hard fought. Joy of Sets and Members Only were a well matched championship game, with Members Only clinching in two sets.
Communication was key in tonight's Members Only victory. Elise's serves were on point, Patty was digging like a master, Josh's spikes hit the ground every time. But above all, this group communicated with each other like a team determined to win. Bravo, Members Only. Enjoy your victory and see you next season to defend your title.
The Quickie Sets marched through playoffs and took the Champs title with a decisive 2 set win in the finals. Communication, team work, and AWESOMENESS are but a few of the many words that could, and shall, be used to describe the Quickie Sets play throughout the season. Their hard hitting offense and dependable defense carried them through rounds of playoffs, but it was their jovial and light hearted competitive spirit that buoyed them in the finals where they earned their Champs bands. Thanks for a great season Quickie Sets!

Power and finess sealed the deal for Touch My Libero in the finals. A team of strong arms, surgical precision like serves, and unparalleled high fives and volleyball spirit brought it all together for this team and they took home the Champs bands and Underdog bragging rights. There were certainly some ups and downs this season, but Diggin' Deep rose to the occasion when it counted most. After advancing in a close game in the first round of the playoffs, the Deeps cruised in the semi-finals, beating a group of Norris' that were aimed to kill. In the finals, Diggin' fell behind early, but rallied in the last two games to take home the wristbands. Congrats to Dave, Kevin, Michelle, Armando, Vanessa, Samantha, and (I guess....) Sophia, too.

Orange is the New Black was one of the Indy teams that have never played together before in the Underdog Sports League. For some, this was their first time playing volleyball while others have had many years of experience. This team struggled through the regular season by not having a full team to play with because of injuries or schedule conflicts, but the players who showed up week after week played really hard and they definitely deserved this win!
Congratulations to Orange is the New Black for playing through some tough games, winning several matches, playing exceptionally well together, and winning the title of Underdog Champs! You all are true Underdogs by maintaining a positive outlook through the season and making wins when it mattered most! Nice work!
Man, oh, man! What a season for DreamChasers LTD.!!!! They were a top contender week after week playing well against some other strong teams in the regular season. They had some tough losses, but they rose to the occasion in the Playoffs when it really mattered most!
In the Playoffs, DreamChasers LTD. was the #4 seed going into the competition. After their first win against the #5 seed, they went on to play the #1 seed in the league. It's amazing what happened next - they won all three matches and earned their spot in the Finals!
The Final game tonight was a back and fourth battle for both teams creating smart plays for points and not giving up until the game ended. DreamChasers LTD. lost the first match, and then they were down by 10 points in the second match. They stayed optimistic, played hard, and ended up winning that match by 27-25. In the third and final match, they chased their dream and won the series by 2-1 making them Underdog Volleyball Champs! Great game DreamChasers LTD!

After not matching up in the regular season, Cabbage Patch Digs and Just Really Big Digs met face to face on the championship court. Neither team had any clue what they were up against so they just brought everything they had. There was scrappiness, ace serves, hard hits and lots of cheers & high fives.
Big Digs started the match off with a bang in game one. With a massive serving streak by Mike and a number of well placed attacks they took charge of the game. The players from Cabbage Patch were moving a little slower than usual and at one point a player blamed it on “too many tots,” which they enjoyed at the bar between matches. Big digs won game one with an awesome score of 25-17.
Cabbage Patch walked onto the court in game two with their game faces on and determination in their eyes. Jon, or Just Jon as his team shirt says, jumped a little higher and got a little more aggressive with his attacks and Jen (aka J-cakes) ran her little butt around the court to make lots of clutch saves and also pulled out some strong swings.
On the other side of the court, Jefferson and his band of diggers put up a great fight. Molly played a scrappy game and recovered lots of balls that tried to drop just over the net. Jefferson, the power house of the team sent many rocket spikes onto his opponent’s side and racked up a number of points for his team. Unfortunately a few too many missed serves gave Cabbage Patch the win in game two 25-22.
Game three played out very similar to game two with lots of great hits, saving digs and a few more aces from the back line. Cabbage Patch had officially shaken off the tots by this point and were moving around the court with ease. A big lead had them breathing easy toward the end of the game, but soon the tables turned and Big Digs started racking up some points. A missed serve at 24-17, in favor of Cabbage Patch, gave Big Digs a chance to keep themselves alive. Rally after rally brought the point spread closer together. However, a final attack by Cabbage Patch brought them the championship victory!!
Notorious DIG and Boobie and workplace proximity(formally notorious dig) were playing for the BiG win and name. Both sides were ready, as Proximity was already in the area and loose. DIG, got loose. By warming up to the tunes while playing. Dancing on the court along with hustling.
It was a team effort, as it took them all, whether they were on there sir the start or not, they were in time. Playing a nice match and ending the season winning three Straight, Notorious brought it all together in the end. Nice season and congrats!
With their backs seemingly against the wall after a first game loss to E! True Volleyball Story in this St. Pat's Day championship matchup, Shaggin Balls did some soul searching and regrouped to storm back in a big way. (Maybe even had some lucky shamrocks in their pockets??) The Shaggers scratched and clawed their way to a nail-biting 27-25 win in Game 2 and with their confidence renewed, kept a steady pace to win Game 3 by a decisive margin. Led at the net for some screamin' kills and fantastic blocking by Chris and Brad, the Shaggin' Balls crew performed as a well-tuned unit to find a way to come back and claim the championship USL wristbands and title. Thanks for an incredible effort, Shaggers!

Tonight’s finals match was an awesome spectacle of great volleyball. After winning their semi-finals matches Morning Missiles and Blockheads faced off across the net and each gave the performance of true athletes. From serving aces to net domination and from smart sets to saving digs these two teams put it all together and gave it their all.
Morning Missiles started off game 1 with a killer spike that set the tone for the whole match. Blockheads saw what they were up against and were not going to go down without a fight. Facing off in the front middle were two powerhouses, Ben from Morning Missiles and Chris from Blockheads. Throughout all three games these two showed what they could do with massive blocks and killer spikes. They’re not too shabby in the back row either as they threw their bodies to the ground for some clutch saves.
One of my favorite parts to this matchup was that both teams played 4 girls and 2 guys, and the girls dominated. The Dahlstrom sisters, from Blockheads, are two forces to watch out for. Mady has a wicked swing that racked up many points for her team throughout the night. Amanda is the team’s setter who plays very smart ball and has some of the best sets I have seen in the league.
I would say things are pretty even amongst the girls on the Morning Missiles side. Tonight however Kerrynne knocked it out of the park from the serving line. During their semi-finals match she pulled the team out of a rut with a serving run and she continued to rack up ace after ace during the rest of the nights games. Rachel was another rock star tonight, using her height and wits to make smart plays.
With both teams being stacked with skill & determination it really was anyone’s game tonight. However, we all know that there can only be one champion. With just a few more aces and a few more kills than their opponents the Morning Missiles got to walk away with the coveted title, Underdog Champs!
Long time Fernwood team IgoNoUGo earned themselves another Underdog championship tonight after defeating the second place team, Amazeballs. The hard serving, big hitting Amazeballz put up a great fight in their second game of the night. But the fresh legged IGoNoUGo came ready to win tonight.
In their third match up of the season, each winning 1 match, this the was rubbermatch championship. What a game it was. It was back and forth between these two teams. Great blocking and hitting on both side of the net. But IGo was just a little more prepared tonight and were ready for what ever came their way.
Congrats to the IGoNoUGo team. Great season!

Po'okela is a Hawaiian term translating to "excellence" and this team stood their ground and represented their name well. From the first time seeing them play, they were a team with strong communication, player chemistry, and knowledge of the sport's fundamentals. They have been playing together for many years and it truly shows because their bond is uplifting to watch.
In the Finals night, they won their first game in the first 2 matches and they played the third game for fun. Their opponents put up a good defense and offense against Po'okela, but they still came out on top. Then the conclusion to the night for the Final game against Safe Sets and their tall and hard spikers, they were on for another worthy opponent. Po'okela won the first match! They were losing in the second match and were down several points, but they came back cutting their deficit to win the match by 2 points. Amazing come back!!!
Congratulations, team Po'okela, and gratitude for a great season! You all not only played well, but were also very kind and humble to all players in the league. You're true Underdog Champions!

Both Sets on the Beach and DOMIZON went undefeated during the regular season, but did not meet face to face until the finals. These two power house teams came ready to fight on this night of nights and made sure to keep things interesting.
After going 3-0 in every single one of their games DOMIZON walked into the gym ready to keep that record flawless. Shaina, the team captain made sure each one of her teammates was warmed up, pumped up and ready to do battle. As the match began it became obvious that DOMIZON had met their match and it would be a fight for the championship title. Sets on the Beach dominated game 1 25-15, leaving DOMIZON bewildered, but not defeated.
With a spirit lifting pep-talk from Shaina, DOMIZON headed back out onto the court to claim their victory. From massive spikes to saving digs, DOMIZON charged their way to a victorious 8-0 season and the title of Underdog Champions!
Both Passive Aggressive and TA were pumped up as they made their way from their semi-finals victories to the finals court. After some great regular season play, these teams placed 1st and 2nd in their playoff bracket so it was no surprise to find them face to face in the finals.
Passive Aggressive, a well versed team in underdog volleyball, found themselves in the championship game for the second time in two seasons. The last one did not go exactly as they planned and vowed that this time victory would be theirs. They put their game faces on and bumped, set and spiked their way to the title of Underdog Champions!
Team Tom is a group of well seasoned players who met last season on an Indy team. During the regular season their team went 4-2 with losses to We Find Volleyball Enjoyable and Planet Volleywood. On Thursday night they started off the night with a semi-finals match against Planet Volleywood with a chance to settle the score. A mission they did not take lightly and completed with solid determination.
That win then faced them off with We Find Volleyball Enjoyable for another opportunity to redeem themselves. With no one else in the gym the two teams used the 90’s music as their muse. “Must have been love” was a particularly inspiring song for Team Tom, as they went on a 10 point run during its run time. Tommy, their teams “star player,” helped lead them to the defeat of both their competitors that night and title of Underdog Champions!
The M's have been an exciting team to watch from the start of the season. They have a diverse set of players with different skills and they all compliment each other. I'm most impressed with the way they adapt to new opponents by switching up their playing style. For example, The M's are a hard hitting team with stellar spiking ability, but they also know when to tip it over or to push it to the back row to open spaces on the floor for easy points. Their volleyball IQ is very high and it shows week after week!
In the Playoff round, they faced their first match up and they won the first two games with ease. There wasn't a need for a third game so they took it to rest up before the Finals. Player of the game went to Mary B. for being invisible on the court! Then in the Final round they played a very competitive team who worked their way to the top, but The M's were more than ready and hungry for a win since they've played in the Finals for 3 years and have never won before. Then guess what? The M's brought it! They won each match and were undefeated for the night claiming themselves as Underdog Champions in Midcore Volleyball. Congratulations and great teamwork!!!
In a large Midcore Division full of tough competition, Team Honey 2.0 had something unique: Captain Jordan. She's a True Underdog Captain when it comes to organizing a great team and managing each week's game with poise and grace. Team Honey may sound sweet, but they have a killer makeup! Honey rolled through the first 4 weeks of Winter undefeated, only to lose a hard fought battle to Sofa King Deep Sets 0-3. Jordan rallied her Honey teammates to beat Just the Tip 2-1 in the final week of the regular season. Team Honey 2.0 was headed to playoffs with a 5-1 record!
The first week of playoffs brought forth a good match against A Case of the Hits, with Honey winning 3-0. The semifinals against Just the Tip was the rematch of the season, as games went 23-25, 25-20, 25-20 in 2.0's favor. The finals match-up against Check Out Our Aces was a back and forth 25-17, 25-21 victory. Jordan had led Team Honey 2.0 to be the Champions of the Winter Midcore 1 Volleyball League at Seattle Central on Tuesdays!!
The Softcore Division of this league was stacked with competition. Each week, Balls Deep played their hearts out week in and week out. Victories came early this Winter, with a midseason slump against The Ruckus (0-3) and Volleyball Death (1-2). Michael rallied his team, and played triumphantly the final two weeks of the season, winning both 2-1. Michael led his team to playoffs with a 4-2 record!
The first round of playoffs, Balls Deep rolled over Setting Ducks 3-0. The semifinals against Team America was the closest of the season, as games went 25-20, 20-25, 25-23 in Balls Deep's favor. Warmed and ready to kill, Michael rallied his team to move confidently to the finals against Volleyball Death. Balls Deep rallied to bump, set, and spike their way to a 25-13, 25-15 triumph! Michael has recruited a kickass team who are the Champions of the Winter Softcore Volleyball League at Seattle Central on Tuesdays!!
Interracial Sets sailed smoothly through the regular season weeks, dominating each team 3-0. Each opponent put up a valiant effort, however only White Frogs could put up 23 points against the unstoppable force. This team really gels together, knowing each others' strengths, and trusting each others' abilities to get the job done. Nick was leading his team into playoffs as the top seed at 6-0!!
The first round of playoffs, Interracial Sets had a rematch with White Frogs, defeating them 25-15, 25-20 in a heated back and forth match. The semifinals against Planet Volleywood was a tough, fast match, result in a 25-17, 25-22 win. The finals against The Dream Continues began with one of the best matches of the season, as Dream won the first game 26-24. Nick rallied his team and won the final two games 25-15, 25-13. Nick put together an All Star Team who are the Champions of the Winter Midcore Volleyball League at Seattle Central on Tuesdays!!

We wrapped up our winter intermediate volleyball league tonight, with some amazing rallies, fierce hits, and amazing digs.
The night started with the #4 seed, White Chocolate Dragons, taking on the #1 seed "Get It Up". The Dragons took a commanding lead, and looked to run away with the first game before the top seed battled back to tie the game at 17 all. White Chocolate Dragons regrouped and pulled out an impressive 21-18 victory. The second game was much closer, as Get It Up found their groove. Trading leads all game long, White pulled ahead near the end to a game point 20-17 score. Get It Up was resilient, forcing multiple game points and knotting the score at 22-22, with a deciding point on the line. Unfortunately for the top seed, White Chocolate Dragons won the last point of the match, winning 23-22 and moving on to the championship round.
Our other semi-final match featured the #2 seed, Fock Yeah, versus the #3 seed, D Force. Fock Yeah won the match with relative ease, with D Force battling hard in the first game before giving way in the 2nd.
The championship game featured rallies that went on for days, with both teams making miraculous plays to extend the point and give their team hope. Fock Yeah won most of the rallies in game 1, winning handily, but game two was a different story. White Chocolate Dragons flipped the script in game two, and with a commanding win, forced a deciding final game to decide our champion.
The last game didn't disappoint, as both teams traded points the entire way. With the score tied at 19, Fock Yeah sealed the victory with the final two points to win their championship.
Congratulations to Fock Yeah on a great playoff run, and to all our playoff teams on a fantastic night of play!
The Monday night advanced volleyball playoffs started off with the 1st place team, Safe Sets (Blue), taking on the 4th place team, Smokin' Aces (red). Both teams started off strong, but Safe Sets quickly pulled ahead after reaching 10 points. Smokin' Aces worked hard to stay in the game but couldn't manage to block all of Safe Sets sharp spikes. The first game ended with Safe Sets pulling in at 21 and Smokin' Aces at 14.
The second game between Smokin' Aces and Safe Sets closely mirrored the first. Smokin' Aces kept up on their digs and blocks, but couldn't manage to pull ahead. Safe Sets closed the first match by winning both games by a safe margin.
Match two pitted the 3rd place green team, TMNT, against the 2nd place black team, A Bump For Diggler. Both teams left the gate strong and full of friendly competition. A Bump For Diggler brought strong spikes, where TMNT had impressive digs. The score was neck-and-neck until the halfway point. A Bump For Diggler found their groove after the first 10 points and sailed all the way to 21; leaving TMNT back at 11 points total for the first game.
Game two proved to the crowd that TMNT was not done fighting. Each member of the teenage turtle team brought an energy that could only be matched by A Bump For Diggler's perseverance. A Bump For Diggler gave us incredible left handed spikes, while TMNT delivered a brother / sister blocking duo. In the end, A Bump For Diggler pulled ahead and won the match by 5 points.
The championship game gave us the quick and powerful Safe Sets (blue) against the experienced and strong Bump For Diggler (black). Both teams were deadlocked for a majority of the game. A Bump for Diggler would pull ahead by 2 points, only to have Safe Sets come back and pull ahead by 3. All sets were lined up perfectly and the spikes were on point. The last few moments of the game had A Bump For Diggler and Safe Sets tied at 21. With a final spike and an unexpected short serve, Safe Sets gained the high ground and secured the first win.
The second game in this fabled match proved to be just as thrilling as the first. Jump serves were in-demand and pancakes were served fresh. Safe Sets was sailing off their previous win and refused to relinquish the lead. Despite A Bump For Diggler's fierce spikes, they couldn't manage to pull ahead. With "A Bump For Diggler" settling in at 19 points, Safe Sets crushed one last spike to take the game at 21 points.
Congratulations to Safe Sets on their championship, and to all our playoff teams on a fantastic end to the season!
Recipe for making "Awesomesauce"
Ingredients
1 cup of style
A pinch of sass
3 tbl spoons of determination
1 inability to show up on time
6 characters on the court at one time
A dash of amazing crowd support
8 athletic individuals
some amazing timing
Directions:
Take your 8 athletic individuals and combine them in a sauce pan. Stir in a little inability to show up to games on time. Next, add a cup of style with a pinch of sass (careful not to use too much or it might get out of control). Bring to a boil and throw in some perfect timing. Then reduce the heat and pour in some determination. Later add in all at once some amazing characters. Stir aggressively and at the last minute add in a sprinkle of perfect timing.
Now take your "Awesomesauce" and drizzle it over your Thursday Night East Moreland Softcore playoff bracket and you have made a recipe for creating the perfect Softcore Championship Team.
A recipe for success, that was absolutely fun to watch unfold before our eyes. Awesomesauce worked their way through the playoffs this session with style points unseen in this league. Tonight was yet another example of a fun group of individuals who have an amazing and hilarious supporting crowd, working it Underdog style and coming away as this sessions champs.
Thanks for making this such a great session and we look forward to having you come back to repeat as champs...hmmm a new recipe for success perhaps?
#Thatjusthappened
A team built out of fun and spirit who pick each other up and always play with a wicked smile on their face just walked through the playoffs and smashed their way to a title tonight.
After a solid warm up match with "i'd hit that" in the semi finals where they coasted through their first two games with a grin and a swagger, they stepped up to play freeballers for a chance at immortality in the Underdog World. The match was AWESOME, several back and forth moments. There were times when either team could have fallen. In the end it took 31 points from Octothorpes in the second game to declare a victor.
A crazy group of fun loving people who personify the spirit of what it means to be an Underdog Team now sits alone atop the Midcore Thursday Night League in East Moreland.
Their style of play can be described as smashing pumpkins (spikes) and hosting a block party (Josh at the net), these guys and gals fought their way to the top and are now poised to repeat as champs.
Thanks for making this session so much fun team.
Spike this was the number one seed headed into the playoffs for Thursday Nights at the Friendly house. And tonight they proved why. It was a team effort but they took down the red hot Sets on the Beach after sending home JTT in a close one.
The semi final between JTT and Spike This was a serving war. In game 2 Sarah from JTT could not be stopped. She sent 13 serves over the net without hesitation. But with the match tied 1-1 Keith from Spike this wasn't going to let the championship out of site and he sent his own set of serves over in game three to take a big lead that JTT just couldn't make up.
Onto the Finals against last weeks hot team, sets on the Beach. This indy team really figured out how to win late and they did just that last week, but this week Spike This had one goal and they weren't letting anything get in their way. They were a little tired from the first match of the night and Sets on the Beach took advantage but Spike This fought back and won by 2 in game 1. There was no stopping them after this point. SOTB gave it their all but Spike This kept up their rhythm and took it home it 2 games to become the Friendly House Champs of Late Fall.
Great work to all the teams and congrats to Spike This.
Big Pink came prepared to take home the USL championship wristbands and Ex Novo gift certificate in the Tubman Thursday night finals with convincing wins in the first and third sets over the Thundercougarfalconbirds (say that fast 3 times....). Like a finely tuned machine, Big Pink went about their business with a game plan that worked exceedingly well. Led by Robert, Mark and Joe in the front row to power down forceful kills perfectly set by Haden, Triffid and Nicole and making sure all areas of the court were precisely covered, Big Pink were able to defend every trick that TCFB threw at them TCFB forged back strongly in the second set to clinch a narrow margin win, but Big Pink regrouped when it mattered and made sure the third set and match was securely in hand. Congrats to both teams for a great season and to Big Pink for the championship win. They're a prime example of an indy team who came together in late summer and decided to stay intact going forward!

Can you say COMMANDING PERFORMANCE?? Not the Face sure can! They faced (I know, REALLY BAD PUN) some fierce competition in the semifinal game vs. More Points and again in the final vs. Notorious D.I.G., but managed to sweep 5 out of 6 sets for the evening. Led by the twin Bens (Lloyd and Richardson, wearing matching head wraps), and complemented by their fantastically talented teammates, NTF dazzled us with their uncanny ability to be right where they needed to be on most every play. Their teamwork and communication was some of the tightest USL staff has witnessed this season and ultimately was the winning combination in the championship. Wear those champ wristbands proudly - you deserve it NTF and we salute you!

Congratulations to the champions of this league, Unprotected Sets. Not only did they play an amazing game tonight but they have been playing great every single night. With the first win in the semi-finals, they came into the championship game ready for business. The game was incredibly close with a 23-25 and 25-27 score but no matter what the team made sure they didn't give up. It was an amazing game to watch and i'm sure one to play. Great job Unprotected Sets, you guys really played superb! Tonight's win was the cheery on top of an amazing season! Way to have the true Underdog spirit! Once again Congratulations!!!

Last matches of late fall volleyball, ended on a high note. All teams playing were having fun, cheering and making some nice plays to help their team out. Gravey Diggers, were the team to beat on season and that didn't change tonight. Scared Hitless, won a nice match against Spike Club to face the first place team in the finals.
It started off as a close, match with extended rallies, great communication and laughs. Believe it or not, it ended that way too. Both teams showed excellent sportsmanship, calling their own fouls, while staying aggressive and having fun. The Gravey Diggers, stayed true to form, serving tough, backing up teammates and spreading the ball around. Nice team victory and great season Diggers! Congratulations and good luck in the 'new' league.
The softcore division of Late Fall 2014 goes to none other that Awkward High Fives! The team in orange played 2 outstanding matches of volleyball tonight and earned the coveted Champs wrist bands! Up first they had Saved by the Ball who came out with big hits, but the blockers were ready in the first game and in 2, Awkward moved on to the championship.
Set Issues was the number one seed headed into the championship, but that didn't matter to the Awkward High Fives. Matt S came into the final game ready to make some big hits and that he did. With Chad up front blocking and Lauren making some great serves, this team was unstoppable. In two the Awkward High Fives took home win.
Great work Awkward and all of the teams!
Ball Me Maybe has been in the championship game before and they knew what they had to do to take home the prize. After a well played match against the Thongs and Dongs, they were ready for the warmed up Gangster Pair-a-dice who had just knocked off the undefeated Monkey Arms.
It was a tough, well played match by both teams. The first game went to Ball me Maybe who came ready with some big hits and consistent serves. But Gangster Pair-a-dice knows how to win and they picked themselves right back up for the second game.
Game three was a back and forth match until half way through when Ball Me Maybe buckled down and played like champions. Some well placed serves from Jessica and great back row hits from the guys helped them pull away and never look back.
Great season Ball Me Maybe...see you next season to defend that title!
This years most creative team name wasn't the only award the D-I-G-G-Y AZALEA team was going for. DIGGY came to win volleyball games and that is what they did tonight. On Your Knees was an indy team who came together this season and were tough to beat. But DIGGY was right there all game long. The twin towers were ready for what ever their opponent could send their way. In a game that was decided by blocks and tips, DIGGY came out victorious for our Midcore 2 division.
In a game that was back and forth all night, On Your Knees wasn't going to the DIGGY have it easily. DIGGY had the right timing for everything tonight. Kari tipped it at just the right time, big hits from the twin towers. Nothing dropped without an effort and that is why DiGGY came out on top!
Great work all of the Midcore 2 teams. Congrats to DIGGY AZAELEA!
Shagging Balls, vs. E! True Volleyball was the first match of the night, winner advances ti the championship. It wasn't an easy feat as E! was on their game, forcing rallies and making SB earn their points. It was back and forth all match, but the end if the game runs were too much for E!
Carrying their hustle and communication over to the next match, against the Kamikazes, Shagging was ready for anything. Playing team ball, digging, blocking and hitting the open spots on the court. Nice Matches and season. Congrats on the win, champs! Kamikazes, nice run and thanks for the seasons!
Just like Marshawn Lynch Poop Sandwich has grown and matured as a team, and so have their in between celebrations. This season Poop Sandwich went for the signature Seahawk handshake. With the confidence of the hawks win motivating them in their playoffs Poop Sandwich went in ready to take on anyone.
Their first game was against a tired Swinging Elephants that played all three games the hour before and only with 5. Still Poop Sandwich still had their work cut out for them. The middles Kory and Candace helped hold down the team with blocks and against their opponents biggest player. Leah, and Seth were huge helps in both front and back row with digs no one expected. To conserve energy Poop Sandwich was able to win the semi-finals in 2 games. Then it was the waiting game to determine their opponent.
After watching a 3 game match play out between The M's and Kiss My Ace, The M's were able to emerge victorious. An unexpected turn left The M's to play with 5 instead of 6 for their final match. Poop Sandwich was ready to take on The M's in the final! With the games going back and forth in points the game stayed close and everyone was eager to know the winner. The first game went to Poop Sandwich with a 25-17 win. But The M's were not about to give up and gave Poop Sandwich a run for their money taking the second game 25-22. With the fire lit to take the championship Poop Sandwich kicked it into high gear for the last game of the night! Erica and Mike made big contributions in setting and hitting. With both teams exhausted by the end Poop Sandwich clinched the title with a 25-21 score in the final game! After handshakes all around for Poop Sandwich, they claimed their Auto Battery bar prize and $ off a future league with pride! Great work Poop Sandwich! A well deserved win!
Bump, Set, Collide had a busy Tuesday night ahead of them. They started their night off at Seattle Central for an opening game of a new season. They then had to kill an hour of time and used some beers to reboot their energy levels for the evening. Once the semi-finals started you could see that the energy they consumed in the form of beers was working. Ryan and his team were stronger than ever, and took a quick and hefty lead! With this momentum they were able to not out their first opponents in 2 games! Next up was a rematch against Morning Missiles and what would be their 3rd match of the night! Their opponent had a hour break to recharge but that was no challenge for Bump, Set, Collide who caught Morning Missiles off guard and once again gained a large lead! The teams hitting and blocking were phenomenal last night but what won them the championship was their serves. Going into the second game of the championship Ryan H. sealed the deal by serving 13 in a row to start the game!! This knocked Morning Missiles off their game and the rest is history! Congrats Bump, Set, Collide on your championship! See you next season to defend your title!
