It was the playoffs for Thursday volleyball last night, and it did not disappoint! After two very hard fought semifinal matches, the championship was finally set. “Team Team” and “Smokin' Aces” were the last two teams remaining in the tournament, and no one knew who was going to take home the title! The final match up between "Team Team" and "Smokin' Aces" had a lot of energy and great team work from both teams. The first set had strong hits from both and beautiful sets on both sides. "Team Team" managed to win a close first set 21 to 17. The second set "Smokin Aces" came back with strong serves, with both sides working together to have long rallies. It was not enough though as "Team Team" took the game and the championship in winning the second set being 21 to 17.

“Friday Night Spikes” are the Friday Volleyball Champions of the Winter ‘23 Season, after defeating “BFFR” 2-0!
It was the playoffs for Friday volleyball last night, and it did not disappoint! After two very hard fought semifinal matches, the championship was finally set. “Friday Night Spikes” and “BFFR” were the last two teams remaining in the playoffs, and no one knew who was going to take home the title! The first set started out as a tight match with both teams exchanging points between good hits and great serves. However, “Friday Night Spikes” was able to come together and force “BFFR” to commit errors that allowed them to win the first set 21-15. “Friday Night Spikes” continued their dominance into the second set by performing bump, set and spike to perfection! “BFFR” played their hearts out, but “Friday Night Spikes” were too hot to handle. “Friday Night Spikes” went on to win the second match 21-17 and was able to finish the season as the champions of Friday volleyball!
Congratulations to “Friday Night Spikes” on becoming the Friday Volleyball Champions of the Winter ‘23 season!
Congratulations to “Plant the Spike” on their journey to the championship! “Plant the Spike” entered the playoffs as a wildcard team as the fourth seed. When interviewing one of the players before the game, they said, “I know we have our work cut out for us, but we have to manifest a 3 match victory tonight.” Needless to say, their spirits were high. Their positivity showed in the first game versus “Plan B” who was the other at-large team in the playoffs. “Plant the Spike” made short work of “Plan B” in two games winning 21-14 and 21-8 respectively and making it to the next round.
“Plant the Spikes” were met by their toughest opponents yet, the number 1 seed “Good Volleybrations” who beat them earlier in the season, so they knew it was going to be a challenge. “Good Volleybrations” seemed to give them no trouble in the first game, but in the exciting second game, “Plant the Spike” and “Good Volleybrations” played an extremely close third game foreshadowing the finals to come.“Bing Bong” came into the playoffs touting the second best record and the number two seed. They faced “Notorious DIG” who seemed to give them some trouble at first, but they made quick work of them after two dominant performances with 21-12 and 21-8 victories.
The finals were set: “Bing Bong and Plant the Spike”. In the first game, “Plant the Spike” took a commanding 8-point lead and things looked to get out of hand for “Bing Bong”, but they took a timeout, regrouped, and went on an improbable 11-0 run to take the lead and the first game 21-17. All in attendance knew they were witnessing a match of attrition. In the second game, it was back and forth all game until “Plant the Spike” went on a 5-0 run of their own and took the second game 21-18. It all came down to the final game, this is where Xoso legends are born. In the third game, nobody was letting up, players were diving, sliding, and flying all over the court not allowing the ball to touch the ground. The game was a tug of war between two Goliaths. It was all tied 20-20 and “Plant the Spike” took the final two points on impressive spikes and hoisted their first banner being the improbable Wildcard Champion cementing their legacy in the record books. Once again, congratulations on winning the Monday Beginner Indoor Volleyball league!

The Volleybrawlers have been a top tier team all season and tonight they defended that. The Volleybrawlers is not only great team but also a fun opponent to have. They showed off all their skills tonight, from serves, beautiful sets, and killer spikes. Even with those skills they are still able to get scrappy when needing to get a low dig or ball that off shot. The Volleybrawlers is a well rounded team and that truly shined tonight. Even with a player down they were able to cover the whole court and return the ball. Congratulations Volleybrawlers!

Weather was definitely a factor as temperatures dipped into low 50s during championship. Dat Ace Doe battled out of #3 seed to beat both #2 seed Sand Fleas and #1 Seed Bump Me. Both wins were in 2 game sets but were tight. Dat Ace Doe won with hard fought focus in the cold, with less mistakes and good bump-set-spike execution. There’s nothing better than beating the odds, especially when you’re down one game and come back to win the next two. And that’s just what Uppers and Lowers did. It was a close, competitive championship match and they fought their way through each rally determined to win. Despite losing the first game they learned their opponents tactics and soon found a comfortable rhythm on their side of the court. More than their skills to remain calm and persevere, they never stopped having fun. They joked when they made a mistake and cheered when they scored a point, their positive energy filling the gym and dominating their opponent. It was a fantastic match to watch and I’m sure an even better one to play. Congratulations Uppers and Lowers!

After a 21-9 win in the first set both teams battled back and forth in the second set with that a stove taking the lead to win in a narrow margin 21 to 18. Congrats Aceholes, on winning the championship!!

Final two teams are quite familiar going against each other, during this season and past. Without fail both teams utilized all their skills and had a game that was awesome to watch. The opposing team won the first game and that lit a fire in Soft Serve. The following two games they give it their all. Soft serve delivered with some killer spikes and even when the opponents blocked it, Soft serve continued to get the ball and rest set for another spike making the point. The opposing team made Soft Serve work for their wins, it hard being one player down and covering for the missing persons spot. This didn’t stop Soft Serve from coming back and wining the last two games taking the championship home!
We saw an all too familiar face-off between Indy V15 and Drinks and Bad Sets. In their 2nd match for the championship title, spirits were high and both teams brought their A-Game. We knew it would be a great game after the first few rallies lasting almost minutes each. Both teams came ready to play and would not let the ball drop. One Nation Underdog made a statement with her powerful kills to set the tone for the game. Although lacking in height, Stuffmeisters had powerful kills of there own ending the first set just two points shy of winning. The second set was about serving. One Nation Underdog had a big string of points from strong serves and a couple of aces creating a large gap between them and their opponents. But Stuffmeisters wouldn’t give up and came back to make it a four point game. The big push at the end by Stuffmeisters was just not enough to take down the Underdogs.

Signing up as individuals, it took The Sting a while to find their groove. This rag-tag bunch looked as if their destiny would be spent drowning their sorrows at Happy Hour as opposed to drinking out of the Champions Cup!
BUT after taking down the first place team to sneak in the back door of the playoffs, The Sting started to get a little confidence. With chants of "Show Them Your Stinger" ringing throughout the gym The Sting took down the top seeded, heavily favored, That's What She Set in their opening round matchup.
Up next was a matchup with their Happy Hour rivals the dreaded Honeycombs who had dominated their regular season matchup. Back and forth they went with both teams playing great ball.
